A BA angler returns...

Hi guys, after an abscence of quite a while (since the site changed format) i am finally a member again!
Just thought I would say hi and let you all know how its been for me so far this season.
Last season on the BA (and tribs) was dismal for me (one fish all season!!!) and this season started in the same way with 3 blanks in a row. Answere? go elsewhere. It is with a heavy heart I leave the BA but my stretch(s) just aren't worth the effort anymore.
However, it has had its upside as this season I have gotten round to fishing two rivers that I have always meant to visit but always put it off. The Wye and the Hampshire Avon. Anyone who hasn't fished the wye yet i cannot reccommend it highly enough. I went with my old (seriously old) man and we filled our boots! not huge fish, biggest just short of eight pounds, but we must have had over twenty barbel for the day and several chub up to 4 and a half. Brilliant!
The next week I made a trip down to the Hampshire Avon, lovely days fishing, stalking barbel. It resulted in a 5lb 1oz chub and an 8lb 11oz barbel. Beautiful river and the gin clear makes a huge change from the BA.
All in all, it is a crying shame about the state if affairs on the BA, but it has lead to me getting out and fishing some beautifull stretches, and do well in the process...so, every cloud does indeed have a silver lining.
good to be back.

Hello George there are still a few barbel left in the BA ;) but a trip to the Wye sure can be a shot in the arm!
I imagine you had been fishing the Bathampton AA which I hear had been hit quite badly and catch reports down. Rest assured that some stretches are showing a good uptake in smaller fish with 2 to 3lbers being caught and I myself have seen quite a small fish in the sections I fish from 4" to 8". Lets hope its not all doom and gloom. There are some out there taking their stretches to pieces with multiple catches of good fish maybe its time not to give up on the BA but to try a few new stretches. Also there are a few sections that would benefit from restocking but that I suppose will be down to clubs as the environment agency normally reacts when its too late.
Regards Clive

Cheers Clive.
I have indeed been fishing the Bathampton AA stretches. the numbers of cormorants I saw in the winter period was a joke. when combined with otters and illegal taking of fish its amazing their are anything left for the cormorants in the first place!
This is great news about other stretches. Which ticket would you recommend?
are we talking the almagamated?
any help to get me back on some fish in the BA would be most welcome!

You have P.M. George
