I wonder if anyone can help ?
54 years ago I bought my first motorbike and drove here there and everywhere as you do lol
and one day I found myself by the river Kennet at Burghfield so decided take a walk I saw a guy fishing close to a concrete pillbox
as I got close to him I saw his rod double over and if he hadnt been holding it it would have gone in !
after a decent scrap he lifted the net under a lovely plump Barbel weighing it at 6lb.4ozs he asked me to photograph it with his Kodak camera and then he said !! Please dont tell anyone how big it was ?? and it has stuck in my memory ever since
oh yes he was using a bunch of lobworms as bait

so my question is
do you know the stretch where the pill box is or was ? and if so what club has the fishing rights please ?
and was it you ? lol

There's a pill box on the opposite bank of the bottom section of Lower Benyons. Fished it many times myself in the past.

In the 70s I used to fish Burghfield Mill which was not controlled by any club, you used to pay a guy called Andy who lived in a house on the weir island. There was a pill box on the downstream far end that was visible from the road, I think it could be that one. Now there is a housing estate and flats where the old Mill was, criminal.

I seem to remember with your back to the pillbox facing the river to the right it had a sharp bend and maybe a weir was close by ?

Could be the old cemex stretch with a weir at the top end running down into rdaa beat 2 stretch also with weir.pill box maybe long gone..
