Float fished a canal this week , 1st time on a canal for a few years . Got took to the cleaners until I stepped up my gear , then managed more tench in 2 sessions than I've had in the last 5 years ., and City won .
I can't comment on the power float rod but I use a standard 14ft Connoisseur specifically for barbel , matched with an Okuma pin . Can't fault it , have had several large Severn fish and had no worries throughout the fights . Roll on the new season .
Mono hook length on a swivel and braid right through . You don't strike as such , just lift into the fish . A rod with a soft tip section is a good buffer to counter lunges nearer the net . I prefer yellow braid , easily seen . If it fades , turn it around .
