    The state of our rivers

Not any better our side of the border, this wasn't thought to be sewage discharge but something much worse apparently. https://naturalresources.wales/about-us/news-and-events/news/llynfi-pollution-investigation-ends-without-further-action-being-taken/?lang=en

    Feeling the strain....Barrows

Have gone through the same process Graham, triggered partly in my case by age but also access in winter. Muddy fields mean restricted access, even with a 4x4, so I bought a cheap 2 wheel TFG barrow some years ago. Have found it a bit of a struggle lately, often my own fault for taking the...

    Aldi Fishing Gear

Don't do what our lad did, his partner sent him to ALDI for groceries, he got distracted, forgot the groceries and came home with a welding machine. Ear ache for a week.

Bit damp in Ross on Wye !

Peaked with us at Bredwardine at just under 6 metres (19.5 feet) around midnight, so look out downstream!

    Float fishing for carp

My favourite method for Carp as well, only no hair-rig. I directly hook corn, cat food, paste etc, any soft bait I can strike through, and wait until the flat float cocks then slides away. Fishing the float flat lets you know when there are fish in the swim which brush against the line, a float...

    Aldi bib n brace

Don't worry Bill they'll be back, I do the same as Steve, when they are available I put them away ready for when the current pair give up the ghost.

    Aldi bib n brace

Can't fault ALDI clothing, on my 3rd set of bib and brace. Ripped the others to pieces on barbed wire/brambles, but it would have been the same fate had I been wearing a more expensive outfit. You now know why the ALDI phrase is "When it's gone, it's gone" you need to be quick to get your size...

    A plea

Can I appeal to tackle manufacturers to consider designing/using zips on fishing equipment that actually work or at the very least outlast the equipment/clothes they are fitted to. The number of bags, coats, rod quivers, etc I have bought over the years that have had the zips fail while the rest...

    Aldi Special Offer

And so true Bill, our Lad was sent in for a bottle of milk by his partner, he came out with a welding machine and no milk!

    On the Fly....

Geoff Franks from the WGA had a double on a Salmon fly at The Nyth on the Wye a couple of years back. Biggest surprise wasn't that it took a fly, it was where it was holding station. The rocky gulley through The Nyth is as far removed from what you imagine to be Barbel habitat as you can get.

    Thermometer

The "Red Letter Day" thread reinforces the use of a thermometer. Would that decision to switch venues have happened without the knowledge of water temps?

    Thermometer

Recently bought this one to replace my old one, http://www.oldrailwaylinegc.co.uk/Clocks-%26-Thermometers/Gardman-Digital-Max-Min-In-Out-Thermometer-16045/5024160854421/ Only £9.99 has a clock as well, I agree with Richard Parsons if you are there on the river you might as well have a...

    Tip Lights

I use the Drennan Isotopes with the green clip slid right up onto the metal part of the tip ring, seldom get tangles. Always, as in Carp fishing, just give the line a pull before casting just to make sure it's not tangled. They do fade eventually, so I'm told, but I've usually lost mine before...

    What a prat

Just off out to The Wye now, I'm making a list, I'm checking it twice, gonna find out-------------Oh that's been done. Iain like most people I forget something most trips, have double checked today following your timely post.

    Best hooks for rolling meat??

ESP T6 size 4 tied to Grand Max fluorocarbon with a Palomar knot. Hook link attached to main line via a kwik change swivel allowing the hook link to be pulled through the meat with a long baiting needle, burying the point of the hook in the meat. It works for me, has done for a number of years...

    Hook for Knotless knot

I buy needle threaders from Dunelm or similar store, same problem poor eyesight. Thread it through the hook eye and pull your line/braid through with it.
