    Hi attract single hook baits

I've had good success with high attract single hookbaits during the summer / autumn months. However, I've found that after around November meat seems to be the more successful bait. When recasting in these cold water conditions you can still smell the meat when you reel in but boilies and...

    Weather

My stretch of the Loddon is a couple of feet down. I could see all of the undercut banks - quite interesting to see how much extra river there is under all of the bankside vegetation....

    NGT Dynamic Baitrunner. Thoughts?

I have owned some NGT bits for years and haven't let me down - 42 inch landing net 0- had for 5 years and the spreader block thread broke - net still good 2m extending landing net handle - had for years but left on the bank weigh sling - had for 5 years still going strong Some really good...

    Muckboot arctic sport

Had the Arctic Sports for 2 seasons and this season the heels have split and cracked on both boots. Got some Navitas (same as Skeetex) for £20 from Go Outdoors. Very warm and I've done some miles in them and they are not that bad. If they last a season I'll be happy for the price

    Needed warm waterproof boots

The ones I got 2 years ago after recommendations on here have split on both heels and let water in. Not great for something worth over £100. I just got myself some Navitas Boots - £20 from Go Outdoors - If they last me a season which I'm sure they will then it's £20 well spent...

    Thames 50

Agree Richard. No evidence whatsoever of otters. A fish that size must surely be at the tail end of it's life anyway. Throw in spawning, water temps, captures, pollution?

    Vass waders

I'm a size 9 and I "acquired" a pair of size 10 Vass waders from work. They are a little bit roomy in the foot but ideal for me as I can wear a thick pair of socks with them to keep my feet warm in the water. The chest and leg area is quite baggy / loose on me but, again, room for warm...

    Loddon water temp

Not the Loddon but if you can check the Kennet, Thames and the Wey here - http://www.rivertac.org/adv/ It will be roughly the same. The Thames takes a bit longer to warm/cool. It's the trend you want to look for anyway - not the actual temperature.

Sitting it out on a single bait

It may be that the fish are just passing but that's fine by me! Some of the bigger fish are definitely residents to the area and certain fish have been caught 2-3 times by myself and friends over the last 3 seasons from the same couple of swims. For me it's about trying different things and...

Sitting it out on a single bait

I think it is definitely venue dependent. I also fish the Loddon which is a lower stock but bigger average fish venue. Generally I won't have a bite before at least 4 hours of my rig being in the water. On the other hand - The amount of times I've recast after a gut feeling that the rig...

    Braids (hooklengths)

I also use coated braid. Never had any fish damage either. The coating definitely helps prevent fish damage.

    Congratulations to Paul4 Whiteing!!

Congratulations Paul. As you know I fish some of the same stretches as you and I know how hard it can be just get a bite, let alone land a fish of a lifetime like this. Makes all those blanks worth it.

    Closed Season Controversy

Personally I think keep the close season - Maybe move it forward a month though. I think the EA should remove the silly outdated rule of being able to take 15 course fish a day or whatever it is before thinking about changing anything else.

    Anybody still out there?

I've stopped going out now unless we get a decent mild spell. Last winter I still went out once a week regardless of the weather / temperature. Anybody still out in this cold?

And I thought wellies were just wellies....

I got a pair of these last year after a tip off on here - https://www.homeandcountry.com/muck-boots-arctic-excursion-lace-tall-green-11817-p.asp They have been absolutely brilliant! I always suffered from cold feet no matter how many pairs of thermal socks I would wear but now I just wear...
