An interesting, disturbing but not surprising to us on the forum article in today's Guardian

Just to inform all who fish/ have fished the Wye around Ross that Kev who runs Wye Angling in the town has been diagnosed with advanced terminal cancer. As a result the shop will close down this Saturday June 15th. The end of an era for the town.
This has popped up on my F/B feed tonight - couldn't see it on here

Fifteen months ago I was very fortunate to move to the Wye Valley knowing that in March 2016 I was to be made redundant from the Civil Service and would retire early compared to most. What more could one ask for; only minutes away from the River Wye and all the time to fish. And fish I did for...
Does anyone know if the reel seats on Drennan float rods are all the same size? I ask as 1. I cannot find a contact on their website 2. The reel seat on the tench specimen rod I have is not large enough for my Speedia or Grice and Young centre pins so need a new barbel float rod.
Thanks
Guys
Having just started to fish the Kennet , i have decided to have a serious focus on float fishing with the expectation, or should i say hope, of barbel.
Two approaches follow taken from links on the site

... main line on my Centre pin is 0.17 (6.7lb BS), the rod...
Having a few weeks for tench...a lot of silk weed - does any so one know of an effective rake....i don't own a spod rod and will be only needing 10m max distance.
I usually take one rod, landing net and one rod rest to the river and am looking for a single rod sleeve that does not have a reel pouch attached or built in to transport my gear to and from the river. I already have a quiver but carry my gear at the river so don't need this nor a proper rod bag...

Cant see it hitting the heights of the Clarkson response somehow.
Having spent the last few seasons focusing on one water chasing the elusive double (there may only be one in the whole stretch), finally today in conditions that were 'not right', bright sunshine and clear water, I hooked a barbel that was not the norm... Successfully getting it away from the...
After a relatively mild last weekend, i was looking forward to more of the same. but checking the forecast it is predicted to fall from 9c to 3c in the next few days (below zero overnight). Add to this, locally we have had heavy rain so the rivers are high with some color. The question is would...
Having reported on here an having my tackled stolen a few weeks ago - I am now into dealing the insurance company. Good news is no questions asked on my house contents policy, less good news is the need to check the small print. I submitted a list of all my stuff and about 40 pages of receipts...
Long shot i know but anyone interested in swapping two Shimano 5010s for two brand new Shimano DL 4000 FA. These are an insurance replacement, received today for my 5010's which i bought from Marcus P on here last year. I am not a fan of the shiny black :D
Home from a dog show tonight to find the garage had been bolt cropped and nearly all my fishing gear has gone - rods/reels/balt/bags/torches/coat...As is always the case - some irreplaceable centre pins/old Mitchell reels...proof of ownership for insurance will be hard. F*@&ERS!!
I just dumped...
Just got back having had one fish to find a FB post of a fish 6x bigger at 24lb being claimed - poor picture at best and allegedly from the Severn...I'm saying nowt....its on Barbel Fishing UK
Decided on a new bait this season - something I hoped that no one else is using on the stretch. I started by fishing 4 swims which i had been feeding for some time, 2 in which I have seen barbel, two deeper far bank swims. I have tried not to over bait - a dozen in each swim about an hour...
