    Ideal spawning temperature

Hi Folks, long time no visit how is everyone. Quick question what is considered the ideal water temperature for barbel to commence spawning. Although water levels are currently very low in this neck of the woods the cold nights have kept temperatures down and the water is still very cold.

No fishing for the rest of the season.

Happy Christmas to one and all. My fishing is now over for this season. I've had a hip problem for the last couple of years and in the last 6 months it's really got worse. So bad now I struggle to walk even half a mile. Good news is that on Jan 9 I go in to have a new hip fitted. Not a bad...

    Another one bites the dust

One of Leicester oldest tackle shops is to close, Angling Man on Melton Road run by Stuart Killen. Main reason being given is the modern age younger people more interested in computer games, mainly older anglers fishing now, and Internet purchases. Shame as it's been around for a long time.

    Roach on the Berry

For the last 4 seasons this time of year I have targeted a local still water for roach. Every year I take with me just 2 baits, hemp and elderberries. Size 16 or 18 hook less than half a pint of hemp and around the same of elderberries. Result this year in just 3 hours fishing was just over 12lb...

    Updated EA website

I regularly log on to the EA website to check current river levels, the EA bless them have re - vamped theirs. I don't have a problem with it but I found a piece of data quite confusing. Early end to the season

Well for me anyway. Despite making plans to go and fish other parts of the Upper Trent my season has now come to a premature end as I have cream crackered my knee ligaments and a) can't walk far and B) can't get down the bank. The annoying thing is I haven't got a clue how I've done it. Really...

What fish and will not take

I spent yesterday on an easy fishery full of crucianss around 8oz, small mirrors and commons and beatiful golden rudd, biggest fish in there is only around 8lb. For a change I decided to experiment, other than bread and sweetcorn , I took no recognisable baits only various things I could find...

    It's now worse than ever

After posting a few weeks ago about the Upper Trent being virtually unfishable it is now worse than ever. Static baits are a complete wast of time as the after two minutes the line is clogged up with blanket weed. Barbel so far have been conspicuous by their absence. The only way to fish it...

Weed Problem of a Different Kind

A very rare occurence me asking for help On the Upper Trent for the last few years we have had a quite a problem with drifting weed. This is not streamer weed which breaks off and drifts down in bits it's thick green blanket weed which comes down in clumps with monotonous regularity forcing...

    Talking of Tight Lines

Tight Lines those imortal words spoken by Terry Thomas at the end of Angling Today screened by then ATV back in the 70's. Who remembers it? These programmes set in the Midlands often included some of the great match anglers of their time. Barry Brookes, Ken Giles and the late greats Ivan Marks...
