In his book he describes wandering along the bank (G. Ouse?) with his dowsing rod chanting “4lb perch”. Next season I’ll be walking around Fishers Green chanting “20lb barbel…actually any barbel”. Why not, I’ve tried everything else.
I’ve got a copy of his book Pulling Against Fish and whilst it has some very interesting insights into bait, flavours etc, I put it down when I got to the mention of dowsing & sacral chakras.
Not seen it with barbel, but definitely with river carp, two or three following the hooked one in. I’ve always wondered if it’s a curiosity thing or competitive feeding, maybe both.

I’m pretty sure they...
“The Brook” is in the same vein as Above Bedford but looking back at the perch in Claydon Brook. The size and number of those perch was just incredible.
I remember back in the day when I ordered my first Acolyte online. What with their reputation at the time I was more than a little worried. Anyway, courier arrives with a 4ft long snapped in half cardboard toblerone, crudely taped together. Oh well, I thought they’ve bound to have put it inside...
I wouldn’t say a kettle etc is made from composites; yes it’s made from different materials and parts but that’s not a composite. Something that’s fibres or particles in a matrix most definitely is.
Yep totally agree. I’ve fished FG seven times this season and had one tiny chub, one small perch and a huge crayfish (I had my phone out looking up Thermidor recipes it was that big). Earlier in the year (Sept I think) I saw a large shoal of fingerling chub just down from the Bailey bridge. On...
