I have heard ( from another site and via somebody I know) that Guides and Blanks ( Hopkins and Holloway) have recently reopened. If this is true, does anybody have a contact number for Martin I think he's called?
Trying to get a screw fitting for a trotting rod. Very difficult without this company.
That says it all Ian! For a reel to fish with 100 - 200 will get you an excellent reel. I suppose it's always been the case though that some like to indulge in their hobby, particularly those with plenty of money and probably no kids!
With big lumps of meat I put them directly on the hook. The bites are usually obvious and in a coloured river I would work on the fish being active and looking for food. They dont tend to let go of a big piece of meat when they have it ( in my experience) though I admit it's not something I have...
People are protective of their fishing. It makes sense though I do understand what you're saying. Away from the big '3' rivers Barbel numbers are often low to nearly non - existent. Why would you want to draw attention to a significant catch?
Since I started fishing the middle Severn it has...
When I enquired about getting the 2lb top for my Torrix 1.75 11' I was told by Johnson Ross that the 11' 2lb top doesn't fit the 1.75 butt unlike with the 12' model which was disappointing.
Personally Ben the way I am approaching it is to only use them in specific circumstances. You know, low clear water, lower temperatures. Many times they are unnecessary and there are better options. On their day though..... I agree with you though, can be blinking expensive compared to the old...
Thanks Etienne. Easy to become complacent and rely on just boilies and pellets. If you have a slow day you will never know if another bait/approach would have worked better. 👍
Thanks Alan. Yes you can tell alot more about the fish in your swim fishing maggots. Roach particularly are always welcome. If I lived more locally I would target the Roach properly.
The only Barbel fishing I have really done this season (apart from a few trips to the H. Avon) is on the middle Severn. It suits me and the amount of time I want to put into it - apart from the drive to get there!).
With so much now centred around a pellet or boilie approach I thought I'd...
All I know is reducing the hooklink to 18" - 2' has made no difference to my catches. I am not saying it never will but I think it is very often unnecessary. Clear river, wary fish hanging well back then maybe. But after dark, coloured water I doubt it. Yes I know the main point is to stop the...
Yes. Bank tackle braid both standard in 15lb and kevlar coated are very good. I only use a short length tied to a nylon hooklink ( combi link). I agree though, anywhere where you are worried about snags, boulders etc. A coated braid is a good idea. I have used Jellywire in the past but find the...
It takes a leap of faith for anyone used to fishing over beds of hemp and pellets but a good bait like his F2 for example will catch with a handful of freebies around it. It is true that how much you put in really depends on the amount of fish activity in your swim. If you have Chub in your swim...
