Ultimately only you can decide what length is going to suit your fishing best.
Up until buying the Preston I predominantly used 4 different lengths 3 of which are used less commonly than the one I go for most of the time. 11,13,15,17.
the 11, 13and 17 are not used as often and in 75% of cases...
Just to throw a spanner in the works, I really am taken back by the new Preston supera x 14ft power float rod rated to 8lb main lines.
I hammered the life out of mine last winter putting loads of chub on the bank to 6lb 13oz seen here
In closed season I took it to a commercial tench and...
Yes That’s the one. I must admit if I was using them more often I’d likely have a crack at that.
I really like the spool dimensions and compact body. It looks like a very well thought out design and yes, machined aluminum gearing is a nice touch over the more common die cast zinc gears.
This...
I’m going to give a bit of an unhelpful start to my post and say persevering with the centrepin is well worth doing. Honestly once things start to click you’ll be kicking them fixed spool reels round the shed they’ll get so little use.
Granted there are rare occasions when I will use one for...
☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️ this would be my advice also.
Don’t change things if you’re already catching the barbel among the bream.
You might end up negatively affecting your intended species by trying to wave off another.
Stick with it for sure.
I don’t know the river at all but from what I’ve...
The “big” floats of Andy’s are superb if you like trotting at distance in fast water.
slow them right down and they work an absolute treat.
You’ll see em comfortably at 60 plus yards no problem also. I’ve caught hundreds of barbel chub and bream on those big floats. A firm favorite of mine
Appreciate the kind words Steve.
Been completely honest and in my opinion the bulk of the skill in this case is primarily in landing them.
We (5 of us) have our own private section of the river and we know that the barbel do pass through it as it’s between two sections on two different clubs...
Unfortunately Carl I don’t think it’s possible to catch a barbel of that size in a section of river like this, that hasn’t graced afew nets more than once and yes if I look through my pictures, I’m sure to see her again
As a Yorkshire man originally myself i absolutely understand you there Neil.
I was never successful in my quest for a Yorkshire double when I was fishing primarily the swale 20 odd years ago. From what old friends tell me the Y Ouse occasionally throws 1 or 2 up but it’s still pretty rare...
Yes. River nene. 6g float, 0.24 main line straight through to a size 10 garbolino spade end xtra strong hook. 8 inch over depth and just nudging a cube of meat through while feeding little but often 2mm micro’s via the cati.
Some of the bream I wade through are colossal
I’m not a fan of them...
We’ll have to sort something out Al being so close to one another and met up several times.
You come to mine or I come to yours. Happy either way just throw some dates at me 👍🏻
Terrible season for me so far largely contributed by the fact that the rivers have been in such poor condition. I’ve just not wanted to fish them.
Anyway a bit of rain and a cooler few days finally encouraged a couple of barbel to feed for me.
I had a modest one around 8lb 2nd cast which was...
Very much A firm favorite of mine for 4-6lb lines.
They extract big chub with no problems whatsoever.
Much preferred my 15 siggy pro to my 15 Accy plus
I’m a fan of them having experienced just how far they can be pushed.
They ain’t the lightest blank in the world. In standard format the handle feels clumsy, the carbon reel seat has a habit of letting go and for the money I’d expect a better set of guides but then free spirit have never been...
Right ok. I did half expect it to just continue through with the rest of the range and just be another 2 ft longer. That confirms it then.
Yes I’m a fan of the original it’s a very unique deceptive rod with very much hidden capabilities.
Day ticket fiskerton??
How’d it fish?
I’ve struggled...
The original 17 has an action that differs from other float rods but despite this I’m actually a fan of it.
It sounds like you have given the new more powerful version some serious stick and are probably the best man currently to ask….. have they retained the original action while beefing the...
