Thanks for the reply, Ian. Looks like Barton Court could be worth a crack. Not too far from home either. I'll let you know how I get on. Stu

Help! Hi Guys, I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me. I've got the day off of work tomorrow and was planning on doing some chub or perch fishing, which is still a possibility, but the sight of the heavy frost this morning and similar conditions forecast for tonight has made me...

    Announcement

Fair play to you Conrad and the rest of the ABF membership. Similar organisations are all too quick to get on the defensive in the face of this type of feedback. Instead, you've shown yourselves to be responsive and reasonable. Personally, I think this casts a very positive light on your young...

    Announcement

Hi Keith, Firstly, all the best with the ABF. However, judging by the few comments so far about wanting to read the constitution before signing up, surely that's the sensible thing to do? Otherwise you're going to continue missing out on potential members like Simon? I assume there is nothing...

    chub

Well that bodes well for my Oxfordshire rivers then, because the rivers over here are riddled with crayfish! The belly on your 7.15 chub is outrageous! :D Some lovely fish in there Simon.

    chub

Blimey Simon, a 7.15!!! Well done (even though it's not a recent capture). Any chance of seeing a photo? Give the rest of us something to aim for! :) Never fished the Lea before, but it isn't half tempting to plan a trip with talk of all these 8lb chub. Stu

    Roach

You're back early, Jez. Where possible, I always try to fish into dark when I'm after roach. Might not make as much difference where you were fishing though? Sounds like you had a good day though, especially considering the conditions. Stu

    D rig

Just thought I'd up the ante slightly! ;)

    chub

Not necessarily a chub circus, but there's certainly a bit of a 'Drennan Cup' chasing, specimen hunter circus emerging. To be honest though, Fishers Green is so widely known about already that I don't suppose it will make too much difference down there. Think I'll stick to chasing a '7' from...

    D rig

I say give it a go mate. The worst anyone has said is that it won't be any better, not that it'll be less effective. I'm a big believer in following my instincts, whether that be swim selection, bait selection or in your case the need for a change in terminal tackle. Something has put a doubt...

    chub

Very true. Just treat it like a good picture book and it becomes much better (if a little expensive)! :D

    chub

Brian, there's am image in the AT this week apparently. Stu

    chub

Nice fish/ photo Graham. Never caught a chub on a deadbait before, but used to catch quite a few on small livebaits (usually minnows) when I was after perch on the Bristol Avon.

    chub

Nice fish, Tom. Looks like it's got a bit of filling out to do over the next few months too... would love to catch it in March and see how big it went.
  15. Stuart Wright

    chub

I've fished a bit on the wavon myself this year - a nice quiet (and free) stretch that I've discovered! Will send you a PM.
  16. Stuart Wright

    chub

As you said mate, you're fishing the right areas that are known to hold decent fish (anywhere on the Thames around Oxford will do!), so I'm sure it won't be long at all before a few nice fish start turning up. It's the barbel that are the problem around here!!!
  17. Stuart Wright

    chub

Hi Nick, Not sure what sort of times you're fishing at the moment, but I always seem to catch my better chub after dark. Obviously not all fish are big, but I would certainly say the average size increases. However, if you really want a big fish, it sounds like Throop is the place to be...

    chub

Hi Colin. It went 6.05 and was from the Thames proper below Oxford. Had the chub rods out yet?

    Autumn / Winter Roach

I will definitely take you up on that offer, Neil. I do a bit of barbel fishing on the W. Avon from time to time, so travel up that way fairly regularly anyway. Does the Arrow have any form for producing decent Roach? Didn't realise there were still decent roach to be had as far up stream as...

    Autumn / Winter Roach

Ah yes, Cow Bridge! Used to catch a lot of decent perch down there in years gone by too. I think the old Pye water is still private, although I'm not sure who controls it now. Interesting that you mention the trout waters above malmesbury on the Sherston branch. I've tended to fish the trout...
