    Let's discuss mainline...

I've changed from 12lb Berkley Big Game recently to 15lb Big Game purely because of the number of snags in the river I fish regularly. Its just a little bit thicker than the 12 but I'm far more confident now!

    Motivation.

The only time I can't be bothered or have little motivation is if I've had a really tough day with my lad who is autistic and it drains the motivation from me. But usually when I'm luckily to get the opportunity for an evening session or night session I take it! 😉👌 As Gavin said though I do...

    Chairs.

I treated myself to a trakker levelite longback recliner chair and its very comfortable and surprisingly light! But I use my trakker nano chair for most sessions as it's small and very light 2.2kg!

    Trent help

I'd do something a little different bait wise and take lobworms and sweetcorn maybe, as most anglers will fish boilies or pellets...Worth a try!?

    Black pepper spam

I used the black pepper version a few times and caught on it. In fact I had more fish on this than the garlic version. I might just have a look at my local B+M

    Frustrated on the the trent

I did the same with spam last season and after bringing the bait in after well over an hour it still had a strong smell.

    13 ft Rods

I picked up a prototype 13 foot rod labeled 'Leeda Epic Barbel' which turned out to be the Wychwood 13 foot Maximizer rod. A powerful progressive action and very useful on a flooded river with bigger weights.

That is exactly how I think now!

    1 or 2

Ironically I'm going back to how I used to fish when I first started targeting barbel, fishing one rod but running the line over my fingers so if I get distracted looking at birds ect I can feel the bite! Also quite often I find when I fish one rod now I'm thinking more about exactly where the...

13ft rods ,love them or hate them ?

I still have one of these Diawa Rods, and at 13 foot it was very useful for fishing my local River Ouse as there were many weed beds along the near shelf. So with the extra length you were able to play fish over the weed rather than through it.

Forgot to mention i use the back to back grinner knot which is super strong and neat!

    Combi rig components

Hi Mike. I've never 'proved' this, but when fishing small pellets (Single 8mm or 6mm) on the Ouse in summer when its low with little flow I've found the barbel can be a little tricky to catch as you know. With this rig the hair rig and small pellet is attached to a soft 'supple' 3 inch piece of...

    Umbrella / Brolly

I've had a Fox Specialist Brolly for a few seasons now and its what I use when its blustery weather or if im night fishing till the early hours. Very sturdy and with the storm pegs in stays put! Only down side is the width at the top means I can only fit into my gardener rover quiver not my...
