I know Neil. I had a 2 piece cane one many years ago. Now regret i gave it away. I have a very nice 3/4lb Avon that my son bought for me from Dartford tackle this Christmas. I do own other "Barbel" rods 1.25lb, 1.75lb, 2.25lb. To be honest i can't remember the last time ive used the 1.75/2.25...
Agree Dave with the Avon Tag being misinterpreted in time. My 11ft 1.5lb is my go to rod for Chub, Small Barbell, Tench, Bream, Roach etc and Carp. Having a nice though action to the butt unlike these 3lb plus named Carp rods. The only other rod i use is a dedicated light float rod. But i have...
What's the difference between an Avon blank and a Leger blank. I have both in 11ft and 10ft both. The taper seems the same but the ledger blank is a little less tippy. Both take screw in quivers
That's why people similar to me like this site. Great help and tips. A good laugh. Very informative information from people that have been targeting the Barbel much longer than me. The biggest thing, there is no side snides, spiteful remakes or back stabbing unlike some of the sites i have left...
Ive fished many a time on Chrimbo day whilst we lived on the coast in western France. I found out traditional Boxing day is a more important day over there when you exchange gifts with the whole family. Bit of a shock the first year and my wife being French couldn't understand why i thought it...
A chap i know at our club uses 2 both with center pins. He caught our record 16.5lb Barbel on the Rother River(Sussex) within 2 weeks of joining. Hate him, ive been stalking this fish for months before. He highly rates them in the Avon or quiver top. They also make a excellent trotting rod too
Well, the flake and crust were a no go. Free lined and bouncing crust off the bottom. Not a nibble or knock. Bait No 2 was cubed luncheon meat and hot dog sausages covered in LA sizzling sausage juice that has been soaking for 2 days. Strong smelling like BQ sauce. First, cast and within 10...
Dave. The Chub are very finicky where i fish. You can chuck anything in the water and they will totally ignore it. Then other times they will fight over the smallest of crumb that fell from your sanie. You can blank but on the next peg, someone using the exact tackle and bait will be creaming...
More or less Snap Stephen. Had to go to a stillwater just to get my Mojo back. I'll try some flake on a 10 and if nothing change to a 6 or 4 and try a bit of paste tomorrow
You see in these fishing magazines that they are using size 14 hooks and maybe they go to a 10 sometimes. I use 14 to 18 for Roach and alike, these silver have smaller softer mouths. So would have thought sizes 14 would be too small
Now the fishing has got harder and the weather a little colder. Do you go smaller on the bait and go down a size on hooks for Chub. I usually use anything up to size 4 hooks with a large lump of meat. Should i cut back on bait and hook size this time of year, if so would do you use and recommend
Is that correct Bill £42.00 per session ?. I fish 2 to 4 times a week so at £42.00 each time it would price me out of fishing at together.
Now I've put my specs on i can see you said season no per session. On their website they only have one stretch near me which may be well worth the £15...
Mine pressie is in a tube in my son's bedroom. A nice Dartford Tackle 1.25lb Avon rod. It's been in his room since the middle of November. So tempted to sneak it out for a go. Apart from that my wife and i are the same as Paul Whiteing. We don't even get each other Chrimbo cards.
Waters still lower than normal for this time of year here in West Sussex. Last 4 sessions had loads of knocks and nibbles but no hook ups. There seems to be a lot less fish this year. Don't know if it was a bad spawning or the older fish just dying out.
Or have they got more wiser to the...
Cheese can get expensive buying it from the supermarkets. So every time we do the shopping i always hunt down the discount shelf for the stuff that only has a day or so on the best by date. There's always Cheese on these shelves. I've been known to have a basket full of Lunchmeat and out of date...
Ha, Ha. I just used my charm with the wife 22 years ago.
Tested the rod loaded with 8lb line through on one of my clubs still waters. The first time ive used a still water since last season. Just can't get the calling of the river out of my head. I digress, Using meat pellets topped with...
