What are your opinions on night fishing ?

I fish leeds waters for most of my barbel fishing. This was primarily a match club and so nite fishing is banned on rivers! Things do seem to be changing though with lots more (specimen) anglers. Nearly all the stretches I fish are heavily over grown and no longer suitable for match fishing. The...

    Bait disasters and near divorce!

When I was about 13 I'd been on my usual weekend fishing trips, come home and hung my coat up in my wardrobe. Nothing wrong with that but what had slipped my mind was the fact that in the absence of a maggot bag I'd improvised and used my pockets! As any 13 year old would! Anyway, I didn't give...

Nice one Darren well done and welcome to your new addiction!!

    Confidence Boost

Keep it as simple as you can Darren. Over complicating things can have the opposite effect! Stick to a bait that u know will work (you can't go far wrong with pellets) but try have a chat with other anglers on your stretch. I think it's very important to have a possertive attitude and believe...

    Favorite fishing series/programme???

Passion for angling is by far the best fishing footage I have seen. It captured every aspect that makes fishing so great. I think the music was very well chosen and coupled with the fantastic film footage they get across what it's like to be sat there. It's also a great advert for our sport...

    Worm on the float

Finally managed to get out and try the float, whilst it was nice to get back on the pin I'm afraid I couldn't prove you wrong steve! All I got was two very small perch (more like wasps really) I think the presentation was good and I liked how I knew where the bait was. I always struggle with...

    Otter PR machine in overdrive

I have to admit I enjoyed watching an otter fish for the first time! It hadn't seen me so I managed to watch it for 20mins. It was at the same time a very disturbing experience, I know the fishing can only get worse as a result of it's re introduction. We pay enough for a fishing licence so why...

    Worm on the float

Cheers steve, haven't had chance to try it yet but looking foreword to it. I could only manage a short session this week due to work commitments. There are some big perch to be had on the wharfe, I have had a few on the lobby on a bomb. Ps I hope I can prove you wrong!! Karl

    Unhooking Issues

I use a 3ft hooklength most of the time and have yet to deephook a fish! Still I would never fish without a disgorger, the large ones will cope with big hooks, all tackle shops sell them.

    Worm on the float

Thanks for the replys, chris, what size float did you use? Im going to use the lightest I can get away with both for bite ressistance and disturbance on the water. Oviousley depth and conditions play a part. Also would fishing well over depth help? I have tried fishing with a couple of shot as a...

    Worm on the float

Evening all, I'm fancying a change of tactics and going to try running a worm through on stick n centre pin. The idea being to present a natural bait and try search for a few fish! Just wondering if this has worked for others and if anyone has any tips or advice? Many thanks Karl

Barbel beat carp by a country mile!!!!

Comparing a comercial carp to a barbel is like comparing a pig to a racehourse! I've found Stillwater fish to fight different from venue to venue. I have yet to catch a river carp but looking foreword to it after reading these posts! I have caught some canal carp and they take some stopping!

    What makes barbel so special???

I love fishing for most species, I'm just as happy catching tench at Dawn as I am running a float through fishing for dace! I know this will always be the case as the veriety will keep things interesting. Theres just something about barbel that for me is that bit extra special! I think it's the...
