    Float fishing for barbel

I think the thing to think about is the pace of the flow, if it's faster you will get away with much stronger gear as the fish don't get much chance to sus it out. Was interesting, fished a swim yesterday wich was shallow and fast, I could watch the fish taking the bait! Some of them turned and...

    Float fishing for barbel

Had one occasion on the Trent catching on the float, fish around 6lb, every time a bigger fish was hooked the spade cut the line so swapped to eyed hooks and couldn't get a bite! After half an hour swapped back to a spade and hooked a fish first run down. I've never had the same problem on the...

    Float fishing for barbel

I use 9lb guru n gauge on the pin, it's super strong. it would usually be too brittle for this type of fishing but the combination of the pin and float rod seems to work well. I have tried a heavier set up but much prefer the feel of the lighter. I do pull out of a few fish but I think you...

    Moon phase calender

So the moon can move the sea but it can't have an efect on fish? Personally I don't pay any attention to it and will always go fishing whenever I get the chance but I do believe there could be something in it. Ask any carp angler about full moons and big commons.

    New float rod

Not sure nick mine are black with red rings round each eye serial no RNAM 1563 I'm lucky, came across a 13 and 14 together, also picked up a 12 wich should be spot on for the shallow water. They do bend but have more than enough power to handle barbel. Still a few come up on ebay john.

I use normark avengers, great rods with plenty of power and still light enough to use for smaller fish.

    Harrison chimera

Just picked up my chimeras built by chas burns in york. He's done a great job, the rods look fantastic! Opted for a 2 and 3, went for the 3 instead of the flood n snag as I thought the extra length would be usefull in flood conditions, keep the line away from bank side vegitation. I'd say the 3...

commercial fisheries. searching for an answer. please.

Most commercials have a fishery pellet only rule, mainly I think to get an extra £2 on each day ticket! Nearly always low oil skretting type pellets. As has already been said trout pellets were popular a few years back but most places don't alow high oil pellets now.

    Line color

Just back to the red light white light thing, I walk the dog along the river at night. On windy nights there's an owl that comes down for shelter and sits on a branch about head hight. The first time I saw it it spooked off my head torch and flew off. Spoke to my dad who said try red light it...

    2 miles of Thames vandalism

We had the same on a 500yd stretch of the wharfe! Apparently done by the land owner to prevent flooding. A lovely overgrown bit of river reduced to bare banks, All this was done in spring with no regard for nesting birds.
