    Safe on the bank?

My local stretch of the river Don can be daunting as the light fades with feral youngsters hanging around and a degree of undesirables fishing. I would like to stay some evenings into dark but always pack up and leave during dusk. There has actually been a couple of incidents of cars being...

    Front feeder bankstick

Dinsmore powerdrive, I've used them for years they will screw into most banks and get a grip especially gravel / stone mix.

    Trent Barbel Stocking

I used to fish Ladypit before it was taken over by Scunthorpe Police / Pisces and got to know the farmer well. I didn't know he had died, shame really as although he was a bit of a cock he wasn't a bad bloke. He used to let us get our own fresh duck and chicken eggs for free when we were down...

    EA have been busy,

It will be a lot easier now to launch the inflatable boats and for the parents (not) to keep an eye on their kids playing in the river.

Is my river fit to play in ?

I fish from a kayak and currently pay £45 per year for a licence and third party insurance to access rivers and canals on top of my annual fishing licence. Only the swimmers have free access.

    Ladybower reservoir

Neville Fickling and his fishing mates had exclusive pike fishing access some years ago and did have some big fish. This lasted 2 or 3 years before it got out and more anglers gained access, the owners even sold trout livebaits for using there. Unfortunately the fishing fell flat very quickly...

Recommend me a little front drag 3000/4000 match reel.

Take a look at the Daiwa Legalis LT, a superb reel that feels much better than its price (£60 ish). They are really smooth and have a good clutch I have a couple, I am a big fan of the Shimano stradic Ci14's also but for the price unless you are a tackle tart they are better value for money...

    DNA Secret 7 Boilies

Is the secret 7 a similar smell to the old secret agent or is it just coincidental.

    Dunham bridge Trent question.

Good roach are available over a wide area of the tidal river, Torksey Lock has fair access and swims with platforms available on day ticket. The river here is quite deep as well.

    Dunham bridge Trent question.

The actual bridge banking area was reinforced with rock armour a few years ago so there is (or was last time I was there) a rocky bank down to and below the water line which is difficult to get up and down. Further upstream it is better. There are some deep sections here and the flow can be very...

Big bream rods, not for long casts - Barbel rods?

Dave Lumb, a well known rod builder mainly known for predator rods does a decent line in specialist rods. All his rods are on Harrison blanks http://www.dlst.co.uk/specialists2.htm

    GO Outdoors

I believe Go Outdoors have taken over Fishing Republic. FR shut their stores for a while they were relocated, as they are now mostly re-opened it could be that GO are only selling tackle through FR.

    Tripod option

The only downside would be faster rivers such as the Trent or rocky, stony venues where bank sticks aren't an option. In reality though I never use the bait runner facility on my reels as I'd rather sit behind my rods watching the tips, unless I'm having a pee or making a drink.

    National team funding

I'm against the idea, why should I sponsor someone to fish their chosen route in angling. I have to buy all my own gear, boat, trailer, outboard, permits for various waters etc and never get any prize money if I'm top angler on a particular day. Maybe the Angling Trust who organise many matches...

    Shimano Stradic ci4 4000

The stradic Ci4's are marketed as a spinning reel, I've 4 or 5 of them and they are excellent reels for lure fishing. To be honest I wouldn't use one as a feeder reel simply because they are too good and prefer my shimano 5000gte's for such use, even second hand they are still a good buy and a...

    Strange Hookbaits....

There's a butchers shop near where I work that makes their own sausage rolls, during the summer I often have my dinner at the side of the upper River Dearne watching the chub and barbel in the shallows. I started flicking sections of the still warm sausage rolls with the pastry still intact and...
