Is this to me Jon? I use Baitworks generally (and I do more carp than barbel currently, and for the last 12 years or so). I tend to use the Heat or Creamino, or mixed depending on venue/time of year.
We are moving out of London in Feb so hoping for more barbel time, and will be fairly busy...
I had a pre production batch this summer (I fish one of Marks syndicates in the cotswolds). Only used it on the Trent (on a fairly prolific stretch) and caught within 2 mins. Looks an excellent bait in terms of composition and texture and having sat with Mark (and obviously Stuart’s input) I’m...
Hi all - Happy New Year.
House move this month means I've gone through the kit I dont use and looking to clear space. Fair bit of carp gear (in case anyone’s interested - hope that’s ok) plus Avon/float rod/Baitrunner.
Baitrunner 5000d - boxed, only used a few times - £80
Atom plus and wrap...
I had a day out of Plymouth in early October. An incredible experience any where in the world, even more so given it was off our own shores.
We started late (to let a overnigth front pass through) so only really started around 11am. we hooked 5, landed 4. i had 2 of 250 &350, my friends had...
Even with the baitrunner adjustment fully tightened? i have some 4500's that even with no servicing since i have owned them (25 odd years...) and have no problem tightening the baitrunner drag on them (though now on the pike rods so not used generally)
once fully tightened then I would have...
Ive been using the Drennan FD reels in both 3k and 4k sizes (float and tip rods) for a few years and incredibly impressed with them for the money (55£ i think from memory. Really smooth and balanced, still feel 'tight' mechanically' plus three spools included and designed so you dont need...
My answer would be certainly more than I can use, and definitely more than my Girlfriend thinks 😂
Two carp syndicates in the Colne Valley
Three Clubs (British Airways, Leatherhead and Twyford and district).
Gives me access to 7 lakes from 2-90 acres, and however many miles of river.
I'll...
Agreed - some sort of medium feeder rod and a normal float rod would be ideal.
i use a 14ft Drennan Match Pro which is lovely (and more reasonably priced than their Acolyte range) for roach (and chub/perch).
Feeder rod possibly more dependant upon the river, but the drennan medium feeder...
Indeed, have been using it on carp for a few years. just dry the area to be treated, apply the propolis and then splash with water to seal it. seen some remarkable recoveries to wounds treated with this stuff.
The NT Labs version is very good - though presume the 'angling' versions are...
Agreed on the Korda shrink wrap, use two bits crossways to completely cover it. used in ona lake where the crays were savage and it stood up pretty well. they would often have a go and it would look a bit rough, but enough to get a bite still.
other option carp fishermen use is wooden balls...
I used Baitworks for a few years (for carp) and therefore whenever i fished for barbel (given i had 50kg in the freezer). Worked very well, though it was on a fairly productive and unpressured stretch of the Kennet.
I think these days it is harder to find a bait from a reputable bait company...
I can only see the CTX Tamer which look different to the older style Tamer rods i thought.
If they are the same i will do some further research, thanks Terry.
Thanks all for the input.
Richard, i was hoping for a Torrix second hand, unfortunately i wasn't quick enough!
An Evo has come up second hand, but not sure i will be able to get there (am seeing if he can post). otherwise i will likely go for the FS rod given the time scale before the season...
very helpful Jon, thanks. I remember you saying they were the best off the peg in your opinion.
As a carp fisherman, I don’t actually like fully through action rods if I’m totally honest. I like to feel I have a little in reserve if required and prefect most of the action to be in the top 1/3 rd...
thanks Richard. Will be small rivers, though snaggy. Will be using 15lb (or certainly 12lb).
not casting far, though will need to be able to ‘hold’ a fish from the walks I’ve done in the last week or so.
Hi all. Unfortunately missed out on a couple of 11ft torrix second hand and so now likely looking at off the peg.
An infinity Evo has come up second hand, otherwise was swaying towards a FS Barbel Gold.
both 12ft 1.75tc. Obviously it would be ideal to go and have a look at both/either but not...
