Ok Graham..planning to have a look this weekend. Have walked down in the past but need to travel light the hill is a bit of a test.
Early season Tench are calling...
Another way in is down steep lane adjacent Garden Centre but only safe when dry due to steepness. Then over field along riverside to other end of pool from the popular route. You only have one gate at bottom of lane to open.
Whilst I understand the popularity of rolling meat given the Ray Walton's excellent mastering of the technique I do wonder if it is any better than using a big chubber float tripping the bottom?
It would be better bite detection rather than the 'if it stops strike' rule, and would give easier...
I have spoken with local old boys who recall thousands of Barbel that used to be visible at the confluence to the Teme around Powick. Given all the barriers they had to negotiate downstream that was remarkable. But all the talk and effort is around the Shad demise, but you would think that this...
An aside, the Severn was stocked with Barbel in the 50's an initiative from the Angling Times, this stocking alone brought Barbel to many other rivers.
Alas we have had no Govt who have any idea at all about the countryside and the issues wildlife face on a day to day survival task.
The latest offering from the 'Labours' offers a bleak picture with their plans to concrete over everything...I mean who in that lot could you consider a friend of...
No as far as I know, the times I fished there has been just me and the ducks 🙂 You might want to check out 'Setting out for Big Chub Warks Avon' you tube, that is a BAA fishery with parking behind in the clip. But it gives you a feel for the river. Also John Arthur's latest you tube offering for...
OK Certainly have a look at Barton and Bidford, the former is a very user friendly stretch indeed, with good safe parking a level walk, a weir Chub Barbel etc. As Graham says big Chub all along the Avon.
For big chub I think Avon Warks that is, never really caught much chub on the Severn, so if you could consider the Avon, there is imo a better chance for a clonker or two. BAA waters offer huge potential just stick a pin in the map and there will be chub. Best for me is over 7lb from Lower...
Married in Bournemouth and we moved around the area including Southampton, lived near iconic fishing and yet so engaged to the work ethic sadly never had time to fish apart from an occasional dabble. I shudder when I think of the missed opportunities mainly Royalty and Itchen.
That's pretty scary to think such an icon of Angling could be lost, hopefully it can be saved. I have been pondering just how poorly angling is represented in retail other than online.
America has outlets such as Bass Pro, Walmart and probably much more, not the cosy tackle shops that we all...
