882 renewed this year and according to the membership secretary, on average, only 30-40% of those on the list actually take up the offer of membership.
Personally I would choose club over day ticket every time. There are some very cheap Trent clubs and
there are some quite expensive but it all depends upon how often you fish the river. Club stretches tend to be better managed and you don’t get the loutish behaviours that plagues some DT waters.
Notts AA have stretches at both Beeston and Attenborough - http://www.nottinghamanglers.co.uk/river-trent-beeston.html
I’ve not fished either of them but it’s a fairly cheap ticket and they have several other stretches.
Like Jon I received an email and used the online system to renew my licence. As I turn 65 on 8th April I was able to choose that as my start date and thus save £15. It just means that I can’t fish in the first week of April but that’s no great hardship.
If possible I’d like to ask the same question but about Nottinghamshire. I moved back last year after spending all my working life in West London. I’ve joined a couple of clubs with some fantastic barbel fishing but like George I do like catching tench in spring and early summer.
I view the forum mainly on my iPad and find the little blue dots that take you to the first new post in a thread rather small to hit accurately every time. More often than not I get the posters profile or the original post. Would it be possible to make this link slightly larger?
I use these floats from ET for livebaiting after dark - http://www.eddieturner.co.uk/pike-tackle/Floats/Hi-viz-Floats-17.html I add a chemical light stick to the top using a short length of tube.
I've caught all of my barbel this year either on 18mm boilies or 14 mm Sonubaits pellets and generally the Trent has been low and clear as have most rivers.
Paul, if you want to fish in that area I'd drive a couple of miles further and fish a Windsor Racecourse. It's clean, safe and probably more productive than Datchet although nothing like it used to be.
I spoke to the EA yesterday as I am moving home this week. They said that there had been problems with the printers which had caused the delays but they are being sent out.
You're thinking of the wrong show Steve. The Big One, formerly known as the Davis Angling Show, started in Staines Town Hall in the early 90s and then moved to the dome at Thorpe Park. It then expanded to a large temporary construction in the car park at Thorpe Park before moving to Farnborough.
