    Snow Barbel

    Sorry to hear that.

    Snow Barbel

I think I agree Rich, a snow barbel on a float from a river other than the Trent or Severn. Hell of a piece of angling especially as I see he has quite a few snow barbel pictures now I’ve researched a little so they are by design.

    Snow Barbel

I’m down on the Hampshire Avon for the last full week of the season. Think I’ll take my boots and socks off and go for a paddle when I get there ! 😀😀😀

    Snow Barbel

Excellent, I hadn’t seen that thread before. However I was really interested in whether anyone had caught one in this cold snap.

    Snow Barbel

I’ll take a look for it. Was it during this recent cold snap?

    Wading/Trotting Net

There is a thread on here from last year concerning roving nets that inspired me to buy a Westin W6 foldable net. I have used it on three “expeditions” to Wessex so far and found it to be very good. The net head folds back onto the handle which is extendable to 4 m in six sections and it has a...

    Snow Barbel

We’ve still got about an inch or so of snow on the ground around here (West of Preston) although it’s thawing rapidly today. I wondered whether anyone had caught a “snow barbel” during the recent spell of inclement weather ? Piccies appreciated if anyone was brave or lucky enough.

    Another tackle shop going

Hi Ralph, I agree that the 1.4’s did feel a little soft on anything but low summer levels on the H Avon but I have still managed to land barbel over 12lbs on them. These days I use them on stillwaters for tench and crucians and the occasional small carp. I bought the 1.6’s and found the...

    Another tackle shop going

So sad, many of my most precious memories revolve around my first fishing trips to the Wessex rivers and calling into Davies to buy bait and tackle. I have four of their Harrison Avon Specials (2 @ 1 - 6 and 2 @ 1 - 10) that I use for 90 % of my angling.

Happy new year to you all and tight lines.

    New record

A lucky and, I don’t doubt very skilful angler, has just caught what looks to be (once ratified) the new record for our favourite species. This got me thinking last night back to a time over 4 1/2 decades ago when I first started fishing the H Avon and D Stour. I had not long caught my first few...

    Who made this blank?

Agree, North Western. I have the barbel quiver and whilst a different blank the lettering and weave are identical.

Catch Cult 43 barbel and chub articles.

Hi Martin, do they all go in the post at the same time or do you stagger dispatch ?

    Treating yourself.

I would go for a pair of custom built centre pins to my own specification. Richard Issacs did something similar recently and reading his posts I have to admit I was very envious.

    Hardy Marksman rod discussion

    Time of day

All the time, every damn minute. My fishing time is so limited that when I get there I am in heaven. I will retire shortly and then spend every spare moment on the Dorset Stour, Hampshire Avon, Ribble and also visit the places I have not visited for decades such as the Kennet, Thames, Thame...
