    Chasing chub....

Never say never Alan, but I agree, it would be highly unlikely. As long as the angler was paying attention of course :)

    Chasing chub....

Chub are definitely capable of bite offs Ian, I've had it more than once, usually on bread or worm which they often engulf with no warning. Also, a very slow bite which you wait to develop can turn into a bite off as the slowness of the bite indicates the fish has simply swallowed the bait...

Small/ medium river fishing - wait or rove

I wouldn't know about the Yorkshire rivers Jim, I'm talking mostly about the Thames and it's tributaries and the Warks Avon. The Thames tributaries, the Cherwell, Windrush, Kennet etc. suffered quite rapid declines, the Warks Avon more of a steady decline. A lot of the rivers I used to fish went...

Small/ medium river fishing - wait or rove

My thoughts exactly. Trefor wrote that book when we had probably three or four times the number of barbel in our rivers that we have now.

Small/ medium river fishing - wait or rove

Move about a bit more on a small river but I always thought "have I moved from this swim just as the barbel are arriving? or have I arrived in this swim just as they are leaving?" For me the key was always in the pre-baiting. Always keep one or two banker swims, try not to fish them for a few...

    Wasing

I would be interested to know as well. I fished it back in 2010 and it was in decline then. Very hard work but had some good chub and perch and a few very fat trout, but the barbel were hard to find.

    'Nuts' for Carp?

You need to double check with the club first. Many clubs ban nuts but exclude Tiger nuts. But they do need to be prepared properly and if the club do mean to include them then you're going to be in hot water if you get caught. My personal view is that if you deliberately break fishery rules you...

Bit of fun... What's everyone's preferred boilie of choice

The original Activ8 was the best boilie I ever used, I bought 10k of the powder and made boilies, cake and paste with it. Great shame it's no longer available.

    Big Cat sightings

Well of course. If only one person is killed it's serious if you are that one!

    Big Cat sightings

That's interesting. I read that between 2015 and 2018 only 34 people were killed in the whole of India. That's 11 a year, or less if the years are inclusive. For a country with a population of nearly 1.5 billion I guess that's not many. Having said that, I certainly wouldn't want to bump into a...

    Big Cat sightings

I would strongly dispute "regularly" Graham. Having read extensively on this subject through the books of Jim Corbett, "Maneaters of Kumaon" etc. it's very evident that big cats, 99% of the time, only resort to killing humans when they are incapable, for whatever reason, of hunting their natural...

    Time of day

After dark on the river following a hot summer day. People who oppose night fishing, for whatever reason, have no idea what they're missing.

Who is to say no carcasses have been found?

    Big Cat sightings

Neil, nothing hinges on what you, me or anyone else believes, and as far as BFW goes there is no burden of proof on anyone. It is a topic that is bound to have conflicting opinions, where some will say "show me the proof" and others will say no "smoke without fire!"

    Big Cat sightings

Not sure why you're so sceptical about them breeding Neil. They are mammals, they don't need specific conditions like fish to breed. All they need is a partner!

    Big Cat sightings

Because you personally haven't seen any doesn't mean they don't exist though.
