Yes. It is about 2 miles from my front door. But I haven’t fished it for carp for over a decade.
Unfortunately after my mate and I worked out how to catch the fish quickly; we became targets to certain other anglers.
So we both stopped fishing there and I actually gave up UK coarse fishing...
I run a fishery and yes fisheries have to be licensed.
However; the EA Fishery service is woefully under-funded and there aren’t nearly enough Fishery officers to do the job properly.
Basically the system is broken and to put it bluntly the EA let fishery owners do what they like -...
It’s perfectly legal - so what you or I might think is largely irrelevant.
The EA basically washed its hands of land locked stillwaters decades ago.
I would suggest that very heavily stocked commercial fisheries (2000 lb plus per acre) are a much bigger fish welfare issue than somebody...
I’ve advertised (on several Forums) several decent rods recently at sensible prices and had almost zero interest. The issue has probably been ‘collection only’ - for the reasons given above.
I shifted 4 rods at the recent RDAA open day; but they were old very cheap stuff rather than more modern...
FWIW I fished there many years ago and just like Bill we caught nearly all our fish in daylight; mostly in the breakfast - lunchtime slot.
We had several over 9, best 9.13 (not caught by me!). Ano Essex based friend fished there for years after us and caught significantly bigger fish.
If you buy expensive breathables, some manufacturers do a myriad of different shapes eg Simms.
Last resort; contact ‘diverdave’ and he can change the size of the stocking foot or even boot. He also sells reconditioned waders that are a very good buy IF he has something your size. I got a pair...
‘Bitetimes to lifetimes’ the last part of Tom Bankes’ trilogy of books has just been published.
Highly recommended to any carp anglers and/or fishery managers, all 400 pages of it.
It is the most ‘recent’ of the three and I’m unashamedly biased as I have fished some of the waters Tom writes...
I have used second hand 12ft Chimera 3, 2.25 rods most of the time on the Thames and they do the job very well. They cope with big fish, big leads and heavy lines just fine. They bend so they tend not to pull hooks out, but they are powerful rods and punch above their weight.
What they don’t do...
I’ve got an old 15ft Shimano Powerloop float rod that was very tip heavy and so I stuck a 3oz lead into the end of the butt. I’ve still got it.
It helped with the balance but it couldn’t fix the terrible hooklink snapping action !
Terry Eustace told me a hilarious story years ago about how he...
I was 'selling' at the RDAA open day yesterday. I shifted 4 rods, a couple of reels and loads of bits. One of the rods I was slightly sad to see go as it had caught lots of my big fish - but I dont use it - so why keep it.
I had a count up about 3 years ago because I had no idea how many rods...
