    Piking on the fens.

I6ft, 20ft, 40ft, Middle level and cut-off channel all worth fishing in my day. These days I’ve no idea. The road runs right alongside a couple of them, which makes it easier to try a few different spots in a day. The relief channel was also decent - but a bit daunting as it is a big piece of...

    Who made this blank?

I had a pair of NW carbon/Kevlar 1.25 test tench rods from the same era (late 80’s, early 90’s). Lovely rods as long as you didn’t have to cast very far ! They did a cheaper carbon version that was noticeably stiffer.

    Warm fishing jackets & trousers

‘Alpinetrek’ website is worth checking out for bargain outdoor gear. Currently (for example) they have some Rab insulated/hooded jackets at 50% off.

    Waders

If you can't find some that fit, you could contact 'diverdave' and ask his advice and then get him to adjust a pair to fit you.

    Neoprene Boots

Zips are one more thing to go wrong. More chance of the boots leaking; they cost more and as Alan Rose pointed out I don’t like the ‘image’. Also the zip design presumably is to allow easier on/off foot access to the boot. I have skinny legs - so that isn’t an issue for me.

    Neoprene Boots

Come on Kevin; if you are going to take the ‘Mick’ at least get your facts right…..My Parcours don’t have zips (I would never wear zipped wellies) and the style cues on the Gumleaf boots are almost certainly taken from the Parcours. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery… The Gumleaf boots...

    Neoprene Boots

Never tried Gumleaf - but their neoprene boot looks like it is a straight copy of the Aigle Parcours. I use the latter and think they are fantastic. I wear them a lot (fishing, shooting and work) and get up to 3 years from a pair. I’m on about my 4th pair and have tried trading down to several...

So I’ve got a little range of bolo floats.

Those look good to me; I’d be interested in a few please.

    WANTED, floodwater setup 🤞🏻

Okuma 6000 inc’s for my floodwater fishing. I found spare spools at £24 each. Prior to that I used old (90’s) Shimano GT4000 Baitrunners. Great, solid reels IF you like Baitrunners…..

    Back rod rests

I occasionally use 2 ft of 8mm bungee cord and 3 cable ties. Central loop goes round the rod rest and an adjustable loop in either end goes round the rod butts ( a slight cork flare helps) . Just make sure the bank stick is well in.... On my venues I try and avoid 3 ft twitches and I don't get...

    Back rod rests

Tnx for that; I use his sticks, buzz bars etc but have never used the backrests ! I’ve got at least 5 of them. I will give them a try.

March for Clean Water - London Sunday Nov 3

Did anybody else go ? Good to see 140 different organisations (including the Angling Trust) working together for healthier water.

Why no "Ghillie Service" for course fishing?

I regularly pay serious money for guides when fishing abroad. It is a real shortcut to actually catching something. Just for reference a good guide in the Florida Keys is now 850 dollars a day (2 anglers) and expects a 150 dollar tip…..and they are booked up a year in advance. As has been...

    Severn Trent Fail

Much as I don’t like to admit it; part of the historic under-investment by the water companies was because the government would NOT let them spend the money. Every 3 years the water companies put forward their planned investment programme(s) and the water regulator then decided what work...

Test curves Vs line and casting weight

That is brilliant. MH is a top guy, he gave me and some mates a casting lesson a while back. Highly recommended.

    Paste and boilie soaks

These days I use bought frozen bait and matching glug /soak. If I use added paste it is simply matching base mix mixed with said glug.

    Mark Tunley specialist multi tip

Yes, he can supply additional tips. I will re-jig mine (2” broken off the tip) and see what it is like before I get a replacement. I don’t particularly like the orange tips either (too much orange) and ironically I broke the all black one !

    Mark Tunley specialist multi tip

I took mine feeder fishing for Stillwater roach earlier this week. I would have written you a full report. Unfortunately I smashed the tip in the back of my car on the way to the lake (and I left the other tips at home). It will be 11ft 4” and a 65g tip by the time I’ve resuscitated it. I’ve...

    Boilie favourites/recommendations?

Exactly right. I used to fish ‘The Grange’ water in Essex and Mainline dominated that water with a succession of their baits - Grange, Essential opal etc etc. Some top quality carp anglers fished there, notably Ken Dorset (KD rig) and they knew a decent bait when they saw one. I got to know...

    Combi rig - This season’s rig nonsense/improvement

I tied mine (usually with Korda supernatural braid) 8 turns up and 5 down. Then I add a Rizutto finish (basically a whip finish) and then put a tiny drop of superglue on it. That has landed 40lb carp and 16+ barbel - but it is still an inefficient and basically an unreliable knot. I say that...
