No monster fish or big bags to be had in East and North Yorkshire, but I think I am very fortunate. I fish four very picturesque and lightly used rivers all between 15 and 40 minutes of my home. The Yorkshire Ouse, Derwent, Wharfe and Nidd. I only fish in daylight and usually only for 4 - 5...
Hi Clive, can I ask what landing net handle do you use. I too fish rivers where there is often a drop of 4 or 5ft to the water, so a 3mtr pole is often needed. I currently use a Gardner which is strong but very heavy.
Exactly the same thing happened in carp fishing. I was happily catching big 20's on 2lb test rods on a water of about 2acres. But there were guys on there who swapped their 2.75's or 3.50's. Totally unnecessary on such a small water, but it was the in thing.
Ridiculous !

Dead right Bill, Mr Clifford has been a major contributor in HDAA for many years. Motorway is a beautiful bit of water, but it can be very frustrating at times.
Hi Josh, I used a helicopter rig with a maggot feeder and fake maggots on the hook. My mate has done much better than me. Using the same set-up he has had eight tench in five visits to just shy of 7lb.
I've always had difficulty float fishing on Motorway. As you know it is quite deep and clear...
The kids will get the house when we're gone, so I'm trying not to leave them too much cash.
Trouble is the better half has other plans on how to spend it.😥
Paul, I often store maggots in an airtight bag. I make sure they are dry and riddle off any dust then into a bag and store in my bait fridge. If they have been there for a week or two they look totally dead, but put in a bait box with the lid off and they will recover. The longer they have been...
You can still buy the Polaris tackle sidewinder, which is a quiver tip that fits between the first and second ring on the rod. Never tried it on a river, but works great on still waters when it is very windy.
