The spheres deffo have better guides (imo and i'm quite sure yours also), that is the only thing that lets the acolyte rods down for me, but, because they are so good to use for my style of fishing I prefer them.
The extra backbone you get with the acolytes (both the plus and certainely the...
Your not seriously prepaired to pay that for one?
They arn't worth anything like that kind'a money.
If I had to choose between one of those or a speci acolyte then it would be the acolyte by a country mile, and the acolyte would cost just over 200 quid. You got 12 months guarantee with a new...
I have a 10ft nash scope rod in 2.25 test and it's ideal if you want a shorter rod.
I use the rod to trot for barbel and it works well for that application as well as static fishing.
I like the look of the fox TI explorer rod which can be fished at 8ft or 10ft also and may get one in future...
You could pick up a unused or very little used second hand aventa model for 40 quid not too long ago.
They do seem to have increased dramatically in price just now!
That said, a good example of the rapidex or trudex will be as costly as a decent second hand aventa.
I'd echo the above, but would go as far as to say I am not a fan of either, even though I have an example of each sat in a drawer. They are both too narrow and the cage on the rapidex prohibits any propper casting.
I hear people recomending all manner of cheaper centrepins, in particular they...
I've never used the spliced model, but I have had and used the waggler model for a number of years now.
Since I only use a centrepin reel on the rod, and the screw up seat only having a short bit of exposed thread showing I have no problem with it, infact i've grown to like it.
The rod is...
Congrats Richard, well done, bet you felt great after catching it 🙂.
I had my two largest/heaviest float caught barbel on .24 line also.
The line I used was sensor, what was the line you used?.... just interested is all, i'm not after buying any.
I'm considering using a windsock for netting fish next time out, just sew up the end.....🤔 now where can I get one 🤣😂.
Being serious now 😁, I haven't found a problem using a 24 inch or even a 20 inch net which has a decent amount of actual mesh net. A 20 inch round net head with enough mesh...
A snugger fit stops fish from flapping about and injuring themselves 😉.
When we transport birds we have them in small boxes to prevent them flapping about, same kind'a scenario with a fish really if you think about it.
I would advise you to service the reels yourself... remove the spool, wipe it over with a clean damp cloth or a wet wipe. Wipe it dry, or better still borrow your wifes hairdryer and blow dry the reel so it gets very warm to evapourate any water.
Once that is done simply add sewing machine...
I've never had any really big fish Rich, but, I managed to net a 14.8 in a 60cm net easily enough. I've also landed numerous others to 13.7 in a 60cm net head and it was fine.
I like these and find their small size (compared to a lot of nets people use for barbel) fine in use being manuverable....

I've had one of those nets for over about 15yrs, never used it since the the mesh ripped on a bit of thick grass first time out!
Gardner didn't want to replace the mesh net and provaricated before they sent me a new mesh bag saying it was probably chewed by a mouse whilst I was fishing...
