I know the aigle wellies could be a pain to pull off but i'm not sure that a welly remover is needed with the latter aigle wellies as they don't seem to be anything like as tightly fitted around your ankle.
An avon is deffo nothing like a stick float Richard, as I said, an avon has a decent sight tip and a similar body to a bolo float but with less shoulder.
Left to right...bolos, avons, stick floats.
You can clearly see the difference in the shape of body between a bolo and an avon float...
Keith, the body of an avon float is more like a rugby ball shape, whereas a bolo has a lot more shoulder, kinda like an upside down tear shape and is more stable when holding back, or in choppy riffles etc.
Aigle paras are a firm favourite of mine, they are good to walk in, keep you warm and last for yonks!
The chamous are imo several rungs below the aigles.
I also use aigle rubber waders and they are by far the best thigh waders i've ever had.
Yes Alan, forget the sphere and get your hands on one of those FJT reels, they're great reels 😉.
The one in the pic's is the "trotter" which is the narrower drum model. I actually prefer the "specialist" which is the wider drum model.
I headed to river this avvey in search of rough chops, a giant chub known to lurk in the area 😉. When I arrived at the river at just after 12pm it was 9 degrees, so it wasn't what you would call "propper cold", but it certainely felt "propper cold" to me, and especially so when I waded out...
Thats a strange senario Wayne, I always found a longer stem negates tangles round the float. You do need to use at least three rubbers, one pushed right down the sight tip to the body and two or three on the stem, the top one pushed right up to the bottom of the float body, one half on, half off...
I know you've asked Richard, but I imagine shortening the wire stem will mean you'll need a little more weight down the line and the float may not be quite so stable in choppy flow.
I had the last couple of hours of daylight on a small river tatgetting chub this afternoon. Upon arrival I found the river was very low and not ideal conditions for catching chub. I had to walk a long way covering numerous swims before I dropped on some fish. I didn't catch many but a couple...
I have the specialist 14 fters and they are rated to 8lb mono, same as the 13ft specimen, I think the 15 footer was rated to 6lb.
If i'm not mistaken Alec Hague has the brochures on them so he will be able to give the detailes on them.
Just for reference Jim, appart from these changes the rods seem the same.....different guides, SICs on the specialist and Black Alcontites on the superos, different coloured whippings on the supero (nicer imo) , gold reel seat on the supero rather than the silver on the specialist rods. Then...
I had a session after the chub last wednesday and had 30 plus fish, first dozen were approximately 2 to three pounds, the rest were smaller at about 1lb to 1 1/2lbs and I had a few nice dace and a choachy looking critter also,so a busy session over a short period of time.
This afternoon I...
Talkin rod bags, I am a fan of the drennan acolyte bags. They just have the velcro strip that keeps the flap and bag connected. Then when the bag is folded over and slid into a snug plastic tube alls well.
I do like other bags, the spheres bags are good, but they are a little too bulky when...
