    Non-Shimano Reel Thread!

Totally agree about Okuma. Trouble is my Epix Pros are wearing out. I will be giving the Shakey reels a go. Very good spec and value.

    Coated Braid Hooklink

The Drennan sinklink is a 'coated' braid. It is very thin maybee one of the higher strains would suit your use? I assume you wish to strip it back?

    Fluorocarbon Hooklinks?

This is the same line as Grand Max Riverge. I like it and use it for trout, mullet and barbel in clear water with few snags. BS and knot strength is good other (stiffer) fluorocarbons have better abrasion resistance

New reel line for the forthcoming season

I did a good bit of research and then tried a line called Profish Ghostline. It is awesome. Not easy to get hold of but well worth it.

    Reuben Heaton 9000 Digital Scales?

I was going to ask about the rechargeables as they are not really suitable where a long wait between charges is the norm but as you say you're other applications seem OK. On the other hand if the scales require any power between use they will drain rapidly. It would be worthwhile putting some...

    Reuben Heaton 9000 Digital Scales?

Blimey, thats some freezer! Do you do home cryogenics?:) I bought a set of 9000's in Alans tackle Worcester yesterday based on the recommendations on this thread for £35. they look very good and I hope its not to long before I can actually use them. Only reason I could see battery draining...

If anyone looking for a pair Torrix

I like my 1.75lb Torrix and for me it is as close as I could get to an 'all round' barbel rod. It was built by a well known and very reputable rod builder who told me if I ever wanted I could get the 2lb tip as the butt is the same on both rods. Perhaps you could try them for size? Might be good...

The perfect canine companion - which dog?

This is Ronnie. He is the third springer I have been lucky enough to own. I got him when he was about 8 months. He had been put in a rescue then went for sniffer dog training which he failed before I had him. Trouble was I think he only wants to find things he can eat or chase. As you can tell...

Fishing Show at The Ricoh Coventry March 2014

I think the timing is ridiculous. Last weekend of the season, river looks good, think I would rather be on the bank as I have 3 months to 'bargain hunt'. I used to go and man the stand at the old fishing shows at the NEC. Although no longer doing any work in the tackle trade I miss a show where...

    Ebay madness

Knowing what went into the design and manufacture of these rods I would say the original price was actually good value and I believe the fact that the rods sell for more than the original price reflects that. They were the first and probably the last rods that made with a step taper. Each blank...

I read the original post and was glad the second exactly reflected my conclusion. Typical EA waffle!

AT Have Your Say South East

The trust are currently crowing about the success of their match on the Wye sponsored by Thames Water and Severn Trent 2 of the biggest polluters of our rivers. I'm no fan of the EA it is them that decide what ST and other water companies can do and the decline in fishing on our rivers...
