    Gone Fishing is back

I tend to record it and watch later. If the twaddle gets to much, I just fast forward to a fishing bit

best fishing shirt ? I think so

Great for repelling mozzies; but it has to be the original. the later stuff doesn't do the job half aswell, glad i still have ten bottles of it left:cool:. Also as the original doesn't contain Deet it doesn't repel the fish too.....i have just read some interesting research from the states which...

What are your targets for the new season?

Enjoy some new different stretches of river and to catch some small barbel ...... have some fun and smile again instead of gazing at a motionless rodtip!

    Old bait

Mark; may have smelt ok.. but what about the oil content; rancid doesn't always mean bad smell.. If we have sell by and use by for humans..........There should be the same for fish bait. Any bait I have in the freezer more than nine months old is thrown out. Use your conscience, would you eat...

    Advice Needed - Custom Rods

As someone who still regularly fishes the Kennet for barbel. Ant, I have used the 12 ft Torrex 1.75lb successfully for several years, however I now find in most swims the 11ft Avon 1.4lb (brought through Davis Tackle) DT does the job. Many on this site would question the use of a lighter rod...

    Peregrine Rods

I use the same blank brought from Davis tackle as their DT 1.4 AVON. an amazing rod, have landed barbel to 16lb this season on it. It isn't undergunned at all, however I would only use in the margins of a big powerful river, it suits my local Kennet, Loddon and St pats

    Angling Times otter article

In my humble opinion. Ok guys... But what gave the Otter the opportunity to eat the barbel? If the water quality has dropped, as with the kennet; the fish are sick from gorging on unhealthy baits we as anglers use, that means they also lose their sexual drive to spawn or even produce eggs...

The picture in daylight too! The angler deserves it too. Well done

    Lead style

if we want to make a running lead semi fixed, why not use a float stop or two just above the lead. I use light leads and a stop anywhere between two inches to a foot above it. some takes are only small movements, but why does a barbel have to give a three foot twitch anyway?

    Anglers mail article

Rob.. You saying night fishing is more productive!! Is that not because on many rivers nowadays, the majority of anglers have fallen into the carp fishing trap of night fishing ie, not really fishing during the day, just killing time before the baiting onslaught of evening. Is it not more...

if you were going to treat yourself ?

I went the other way, lighter that is. at the beginning of the season, I received a pair of Harrison 11ft Chimera no.1 Avons. Instead of using my Torrex 1.75 for my barbelling, the Avons have been in constant use... landing fish to 16lb. The action is really soft, yet powerful for the test...

Fish you have seen that have blown you away but never caught

Surprising most of the fish in this post are Chub, and I won't disappoint! In my very early fishing aged 10-14, I fished Dobbs weir on the river Lea. In the really hot days of summer holiday fishing from school would be spent trying to catch fish in either the weirpool or canal cutting. Many a...

    The state of our rivers

"I've always believed that angling should seek to form broad coalition with the likes of the Wildlife Trusts, RSPB, WWF etc on the issue of water quality, as you rightly say differences need to be put to one side. It's the only way that the politicians that lead Defra and its agencies (EA &...
