I too Gerry have found the same with Flourocarbon; it is far more abrassion resistant than mono; in fact as your example shows- too good!
I use X-Line, which breaks below the stated breaking strain; yet I have never felt unable to land fish because of that.
I have done tests on every line I...
We need to campaign, not just for the wye; it is every river we love suffering from pollution from farming of different types. Paul you say give the wye ten years; what about the rivers that have the same outcome.
We will be left with sewers empty of fish, after all the big old unhealthy fish...
Just because the air temperature will be be 16c; doesn't mean the water will have cooled so quickly. The dissolved oxygen will still be very low.
Best to leave the barbel for a while; there are always other fish to fish for that don't suffer so much in the heat!
Gerry, light test curve rods do not take an age to land barbel! it is the angler . A good through action 1.4lb Avon rod can and will land big (16lb +) barbel on small snaggy rivers quicker than a 1.75 mid action rod. As all are saying it isn't the TC; it is the action of a rod that counts...
I have said they have a sixth sense; picking up the mobile to answer a text from my wife, lowering a bait dropper on the other rod; like you having a camera- not binoculars aimed a bird or deer on the ther bank; all are a signal for a screaming run and the centre pin howling like a banshee🤪
Not the prettiest of swims; however I caught my first 15lb+ here in 2009 and a 17lb 9oz in December 2018.
It has changed a bit since this picture was taken; now the far bank is a row of warehouses:(
Clive. Yes we can choose pellets that maintain health; used in the prescribed! levels. BUT, the shops selling pellets as bait don't care, nor do the anglers who wish to catch at any cost. Many anglers are not educated enough to store their bait pellets; particle etc;
Stephen; isn't it! the pellets are what create the waste produced by the farms; which if the information is correct... is what is killing the river Wye
and if you have no idea of how many fish are in front of you! then you will be leaving a large amount of bait which has the rsik of going off. Small low stocked fisheries are not the place to heap in pellets. It spoils everyone's fishing.
Rich; no the fish farmers wouldn't be out of business; just make less profit. And saying it isn't harmful; have you not seen the pictures of the salmon or trout etc in the cages.
Yes Gerry; all fish eat the pellets; even though they break down in the water; the chemicals and hormones that change the fishes ability to produce eggs and put on weight instead is in the water affecting all of them too.
Matthew, your 20kg with many other anglers throwing in as much or more; high fat and badly looked after bait; great for the barbels health...............
I think not
May I ask; why buy in bulk? High oil content pellets are prone to going rancid and unusable if kept too long.
SO - unless you are chucking in large quantities every trip you go on; and in winter that would kill your sport and everyone else's;
due to the undigestablity of the food stuff. Also...
I was talking with Nigel at Davis Tackle in Christchurch today. I need a replacement tip section for the 11FT 1.25 I had brought from him a couple of years ago. i won't mention how I broke the rod!!! Anyway he has been trying to speak to Steve at Harrisons to get one; he was told that that blank...
