    Chasing chub....

Have posted this picture in the thread Richard Issacs has started about his floats. Having not float -fished except on lakes for over a decade; with conditions not being what I wanted for barbel; low and clear river. I decided to try long trotting bread flake for the chub. It was on a very low...

So I’ve got a little range of bolo floats.

Another interested party. Yesterday with conditions not really being right for barbel, I went float fishing for the first time in years. Long trotting 40yds or so and finding the shop brought tips too hard to see. I caught one fish, and it has made me determined to try more. Any fish like this...

    Chasing chub....

Sorry for the blurred front on image. Well as I am not catching barbel this season, and only just starting to get Chub. I thought I would show this one from the weekend . 7LB 15OZ. Nice to be catching something of worth after all the blanks this year.

    Another pb

well done Richard. why not class it a PB, even if caught on "Wrong tackle". Doesn't that only apply if using heavy tackle for say carp and catching a big roach or fishing for barbel on what many use on big rivers (ie 21/2lb tc rods and 15lb plus line !!!) and catching a chub. You were doing the...

    DAIWA SENSOR LINE PROBLEMS

Out of interest, this seasons purchase of sensor 8lb bulk spool, the abrasion of the line stinks to what it should be (IMO). I test every spool when I purchase, the original test appeared fine, but the line has been stretching and weakening very quickly. I have retested the line a couple of...

    Small river barbel rod

    Small river barbel rod

The rods are the the chimera Avon's. on first impressions, you think it is not powerful enough for big barbel, but as I said, they are deceptive. with balanced tackle I don't feel that they can't do the trick.

    Small river barbel rod

All the years I have used a pin, I have never had sore knuckles... I must be using them wrong🤣😂

    Baiting/feeding strategy

Roger, it sounds as though you are on the same rivers as me🥹, well similar ones . I did used to find the best results in the past, when numbers of fish were there; hemp and caster or mini (400 cubes to a tin) was the way to go. But over the last three seasons even this has stopped working. As...

    Small river barbel rod

Forgot to mention above, I use a centre pin too, as Mark Swaby said earlier, you can wind against pressure and have so much more control than relying on a drag of the fixed spool.

    Small river barbel rod

I have a pair of the lighter rod, which are labelled 1.4lb (which is nearer 1lb 6oz than 4oz), they will stop anything. I even use them in high water on the Loddon and Kennet; landing fish to 16lb+. I have never felt under gunned, but to anyone watching it would appear so; the rod is at times is...

    Fluorocarbon mainline

Chris, I use the 10lb most of the time, and I am aware that it is an over stated line. my own tests on it (rather Heith Robertson), show an average breakage of 8lb 14oz. However even in bad snag pits, I lose very few fish to the line going. As said the abrassion resistance is amazing (3X better...

    Fluorocarbon mainline

I have been a long time (12YEARS) user of Fluorocarbon as a mainline for barbel legering with a centre pin. I have found no trouble in use. My favourite is x-Line a great line; abrassive resistance is better than any other line I have tested, and that is a lot. The only problem i have with it's...

    Torrix 11' blank & Peregrine's 11' GTI blank

I did mean the Avon, I thought the 11ft 1.4 was the no .1 !

    Torrix 11' blank & Peregrine's 11' GTI blank

Richard, where would you put the Chimera no.1, 11ft 1.4lb rod against these two. I own these and Torrix 1.75 lb 12 footers. The Chimera is a true Avon rod and the leverage it produces, it could stop anything I am likely to hook. I must admit, the bend does take a bit of getting used to, having...
