    Why ?

Have been blinded from 250 yards plus by some twit on the other side of a carp lake. He'd got some huge 5 beam LED head torch. Mentioned it to the bailiff who said 'yeh, good ain't they? He's getting me one!' oh dear. Also surprised this summer by the phenomena of the carper afraid of the dark...

    Barbel weight drop?

I would be more inclined to trust my scales and weighing approach. You've doubtless weighed a few fish in your time so why doubt yourself now? I've weighed known fish (not barbel) that were down in weight compared to when they were caught before and after me. It made me question things so I...

    New Baitrunners

Have the xta lc (mediums) which were the xtb predecessors. Lovely reels but quite big. Don't barbel fish with them but could do on bigger waters like the lower severn or trent. Also have the xtb spod reel which is great for the money.

    A new low

How about being bitten off at 2am by a rigonda (not sure of the spelling but it's a big rat like a beaver) in France? Same beast bit my mates line through 5 mins later.

    mortimer & whitehouse gone fishing

This week's offering on the Wye will delight the continuity pedants. Different rods and different reels during the same fight sequence. Couldn't comment on the 'banter' bits as I fast forwarded through the non-fishing bits. Interesting to see Mr Bob touch ledgering. Not a technique I'd expect...

    What are the chances?

Fishing the Wye for two consecutive days a few years back I lost a barbel to a snag on day one and caught it on day 2 with the hook still lodged in the corner of its mouth. On the same trip my better half had a 17lb pike after it grabbed a 2lb chub she was playing. Both chub and pike went back...
