    Number of rods and reels

I honestly have no idea! Just glancing at one of the shelves in my study I can see seven centrepins and there are some mounted on rods in the garage plus a few others not on rods. Talking of rods there must be dozens!

    Help in the burton area...

If you don't mind driving 45-60mins you would probably do better for barbel below Nottingham through to Newark. There are a number of day ticket waters, with differing reputations! Perhaps, Midland Angling Club who have water around Hoverigham or Nottingham Piscatorials water at Fiskerton...

    Diawa sensor

I use Hyper Sensor in 15lbs BS simply because it is the same diameter as standard 12lbs Sensor and can't say I have noticed any problems. I have never gone above 12lbs in the standard version.

    Hook choice???

Another vote for Bank Tackle. I use the wide Gape barbless which appear to be much the same as ESP cryogen but without the carp tax.

    trotting rod

I have a 15ft free spirit Hi-S and it is a superb rod. However I managed to break the tip when fishing under a tree having not paid proper regard to the length. While waiting for a replacement I bought a Korum Glide 12-14ft as a stop gap and have to say it was a perfectly adequate rod. I don't...

    Boot Space for fishing tackle

A similar size car to the Nissan Juke is the KIA Stonic. I have owned one for a year having previously owned a small estate. Couple of things I am not so keen on, higher loading height, slightly shorter load length and rear seats that don't fold as low as my old estate. On the plus side, I like...

Free Spirit Float Rod advice... user experience wanted

I have the Hi-S 15ft power float rod which I was fortunate to pick up second hand but hardly used at a good price. Its a great rod but you do have to give the barbel a lot more respect as you can't bully them like you would with a rod designed for feeder/leger.

Lone Angler Trefor West Chub Rod

Isn't there something that pole anglers use when the sections of their poles become loose fitting?

    Lesson Learnt. Rod Posting

UPS Drivers are total a****oles. Nearly got taken out by one today who came straight through red lights at me. I’m hoping the email I sent got to the right persons inbox although I suspect it’s a franchised operation and they will absolve any responsibility for “external contractors” or similar.

    Korum’s customer care

I had a similar issue. My own fault as I shut the male part of the clip in the car boot. I went to the tackle shop where I bought it to see if they could order me a replacement and as it happened the Korum Rep was paying them a visit. He promised to get me one and that is the last I heard. I...

    Centre pin advice please ?

Am I right in thinking Speedias have a large reel foot that does not fit all modern rods? Could be relevant to the person starting this thread.

    Your first barbel photo

Not actually my first barbel but the first to appear in a photograph. It's July 1975 (I am aged 17yrs 11months) at The Royalty Fishery with the Parlour Pool in the background. I made the rod and the reel is a Strike Right Ultraflo (could not afford better) both of which I still have. I caught...

Placed to stay / river Wye

I have stayed at the Inn on the Wye and the bungalows at the back are comfortable enough for a fishing trip and as they are twin bedded can be shared with a fishing partner. I have also used the Premier Inn at Ross on Wye which is conveniently situated right at the end of the M50. The brekkie...

    Trotting for barbel

I was able to buy a very little used Free Spirit 15ft HI-S Power Float rod at a good price which is a superb rod. I have also used one at the other end of the price scale, namely a Korum Glide 12-14ft, which I used at 14ft. I am a centre pin fan but it does restrict you due to limitations on...

    Waterproof Recommendations

I bought an Airflo jacket from the tackle shop at Rutland Water which I have been impressed with. Remember these guys fish afloat all day with no umbrella to duck under.
