How do you defreeze the bait quicker?

You would not do that with the cheespaste I make! (unless you have a strong stomach).

How do you defreeze the bait quicker?

Microwave. Ours has a defrost setting of 30% of full power and I do a minute leave it for five minutes, another minute on defrost and repeat until thawed.

    Head torches and swim disturbance

I always try not to turn my torch on in the dark apart from landing a fish and use a small torch directed away from the water if I need to do any small tasks like rebaiting. I even turn down the lighting on my phone. Having said that I have lost count of the number of times I have had my torch...

    Very cheeky picture repair request

When you reframe the picture include a mount that will prevent contact with the glass.

    Centre pin

Another one to consider is the JWYoung Trudex Mk3 which has just been launched although at £260 slightly over your budget. It is 4.5 ins diameter but the spool is only 0.54 ins wide. That would be good for chub and perch but I would personally go to a wider spool if barbel become your target to...

    VERY Waterproof jacket

I think it has been said on here before but a good starting point is to look at the stuff reservoir trout anglers wear. Remember they stay out on the water without being able to shelter under an umbrella. I bought a jacket marketed by Airflo (a game angling brand) from the shop at Rutland...

    finding the impossible Boot ??????

My Muck Boot Arctic Sport boots are about 6yrs old and have lasted very well with no signs of giving up yet. Grip is the only minus point on mine but I understand the newer ones have improved grip. Obviously not to the level of crampons though.

    Hook choice???

Yes, I use them for all my barbel fishing, except float fishing, in the wide gape pattern and never had one let me down, unlike a well known brand. I dropped my rod last night while packing it away and a size 8 penetrated to the bend in my middle finger. After the initial shock, I just slipped...

I see the price of grub has gone up

Bought a pint last week for £2.50 (Cambridgeshire). Still cheaper than a pint in the pub, apart from Wetherspoons.

    Age or discrimination

I sympathise with this. I had three days on the Wye last year and encountered the same problem, made worse by the river being low. First day was OK the second difficult to find access over a long stretch and also poor instructions to find one of the access points. On the third day I walked the...

How did your Barbel journey start ?

I am not sure the Severn and Wye were even stocked with barbel in Mr Crabtree's days! However, to answer the question. I was in my early teens and a pain in the arse child to take on holiday as I only wanted to spend school holidays with a fishing rod in my hand. A compromise was reached and...

    Grab and go food options

Ginsters Cornish Pasty is my go to fishing meal. My local One Stop convenience store used to do packs of peanut cookies which I took as snacks. Chocolate Caramel wafers a second choice snack.

    Hereford & Dist AA

Despite living in Cambridgeshire I have joined Hereford DAA. Why you may well ask? I like to visit the Wye for a few days in early autumn and by joining this year (£55) I get a reduced price next year as I will qualify for senior rate (£35) which seems a bargain compared with certain agencies...

To hair or not to hair

I always just bury the hook in the meat. To my mind hair rigging is inviting the hook to get caught in weed, on a snag or get the point damaged on gravel. I am not vastly experienced but on the river I trot for barbel the bites usually result in the float sailing under met with enough force by...

Weight of Korum fast mat and supa lite fast mat

I just bought the Fast Mat from Future Fishing in Farndon for the bargain price of £25. it weighs 2lbs 7oz, so just over a kilo, and the mattress is about 3" thick when doubled over. Not sure I would want to sit on it all day but good for a short roving session I would say.

John Wilson rod is back, by angling direct.

With awful EVA butts not cork! I'll stick with my old ones.

8mm thread to 3/8 bsf adapter for landing net

In the first picture the threaded section looks like a brass insert. Would there still be enough “meat” left after drilling out and tapping the 3/8”thread?
