Pros are the mono acts as a rubbing leader so if you use a decent length ( I normally do about 18-20ft) the mono is laid on the bottom and offers much better abrasion resistance than braid
If you use a decent length you also have a bit of give in the set up for dealing with fish lunges close up...
I got one off here a month or so ago and it was a JR build - quality is excellent
Christian is right- the rings seem to be a whole size bigger than on a 1.75 chimera but I don’t mind them -personal taste I guess
Yet to meet an angler who can tolerate him.
Come to think of it yet to meet anyone who can stomach him?
And he still gets the gigs?
Not many current programmes where I can settle in and guarantee I'll be laughing for half an hour, but i just have to look at Bob Mortimer.
I listen to Bob's...
Korum super lite river brolly is really good
I do use with storm poles for longer sessions which makes it ‘ not so’ super lite but does offer a very good shelter
The local tackle shop owner who told me a few weeks ago said the whole industry is struggling
All the reps from the big companies , even Korda , scratching around for orders
Paradoxically I fished the Severn last week for the first time and never in my life have I seen as many anglers on a...
I heard a rumour a few weeks ago about Bobco in Leeds going into administration
Just picked this up on another forum
Damn shame - great shop and people and some good bargains
Made many purchases and dropped in on the Swale on the way home to try gear out 🥲
They are having a closing down sale...
I was privileged to see a peregrine in a dogfight with a buzzard last week on the Severn
Also green & less spotted woodpeckers , nuthatch and a raven flying over - awesome
hi Chrstian
I’ve just got my 1.25 chimera out
7 rings + tip and all double legged
Torrix 1.25 has mainly single leg rings which appear fractionally smaller
I use a float rubber up the mainline to catch weed and it does catch in the tip ring of the Torrix but not the chimera , one of the...
They are a very through action / soft blank in 1.25 - bit too much for my liking
I only use mine for perch fishing with loafer floats nowadays
Assume you were comparing identical blanks , rung differently?
Number & spacing does make a big differnce
These are both C3s
Less is definitely more for me
I have one that Dave Lumb built and I was just having a look to see what rings he fits as standard but I’m not sure - Fuji but not sure which model- whatever they are the are perfectly good
The deep draw SIC rings that mark Tunley uses a lot are also excellent - I have them on quite a few rods...

Sat in the middle of the NY Moors
Great grub, nice rooms , good ale but very popular
Whitby , Runswick , Saltburn and coast - 30-40 mins
York & Beverley via Howardian Hills( castle Howard) > 1 hour
Yorkshire Wolds also worth a visit
Malton Pickering Helmsley 30-40...
Been there and got that t shirt Mark
I am a serial tinkerer
IMHO Chub are harder to catch than barbel so your tactics seem sound enough.
It’s a well used phrase but so true
“ you can only catch what’s in front of you”
Maybe try different feeding techniques? Getting that right can make a big...
Are you struggling for bites?
If so you might need to also consider hook and bait size , especially in low clear water
I’ve used loads of hooklink material and have settled on Dave Harrell pro-rig in 0.26(13-8lb)
It’s a good quality mono.
There are lighter sizes but that suits me and I’m...
2lb Torrix is a lovely rod but a bit tippy. I wouldn't feel confident swinging out 5-6 oz feeders.
If you could get a 2nd hand chimera 3 ( 2.25) that would be my choice or as was discussed on here recently a 2.5 Chimera is lovely for flood work and generally better VFM
Lots of other really good...
