I think this is bang on
Whatever anyone thinks of Danny Fairbrass I respect he started with nothing , making and selling leads and he’s built an empire
A business genius and lots have tried and failed in the angling world
Don’t really buy into the Korda thing as I don’t carp fish but enjoy the...
Funny
I met the bloke who claimed to have invented the one handed catapult that’s been advertised in AT/ Anglers Mail for as long as I can remember
He was telling me how it revolutionised angling but I’ve never met anyone who’s used one … ever
I have Joe- got some at the barbel show a few years ago
The liver & lamprey boilies have few drops of it in the tub and it is strong 5+ years on
I stopped using it after getting covered in it trying to inject into deadbaits
Not good smelling like a decomposed rat for a week
Yep liver & lamprey- all I have left and got me a fish yesterday
Tricky day but ringing the changes did add an odd fish
Baits I caught on yesterday
L&L
monster Crab/ Krill combo
Bloodworm 12mm - 3 fish on singles BOTD
Atlantic Heat - trimmed
Chunk of peperami fire stick- chub went mad for that...
I completely get sticking to a proven product and the satisfaction of catching on a homemade HNV bait
I’m a bit more catholic when it comes to hookbaits
Just had a look at what I’ve got with me today and I have some pellets and meat
I only use these on the hook but have caught on every single...
On the bank and working it out
1 on a whittled down Atlantic heat and a lovely 8 on a 12mm krill/ redthing combo
Not sure what they are - possibly bloodworm but they work with a bit of colour in the river
Have a few secret weapons in reserve 😉
I implemented this a couple of seasons ago and because I’m not carsting big feeders a long distance , I can comfortably get away with much ‘ softer’ rods
Personally it enhances the whole experience of the fight significantly and with no detriment to the fish.Arguably you land them quicker as...
Peaty water on the Swale is the same for barbel, less so for chub but still makes for fishing for a bite
I have fished the Wye for 4-5 days solid dawn til dark, same stretch for 4-5 seasons. Regardless of water quality there were without question distinct feeding spells and not necessarily when...
I prefer Torrix in the lighter test curves
Chimeras for heavier work all the way to 3lb tc for pike fishing
Then there’s an overlap with Harrison pike blanks which have the characteristics of Chimeras in certain TC but I’m not sure if they are a completely different blank- Rich will know
Love...
Gripz are a great choice
I use the wide gape on mono, fluoro and braid and no issues whatsoever
If I scale down for maggots or castor ( 12, 14 or 16) Drennan wide gape also never straightened one ever or lost many fish and cheap to replace and easy to source
As a safe bet if them lads recommend a 11’ x 1.75 torrix that’s a good shout and even if it’s not for you , you’ll be able to move it on quickly
I don’t use 11’ rods but I am a massive fan of the 1.25 torrix which according to MT has more power in the butt than a 1.75 but obviously it’s a lot...
Another vote for small pellets 8-10mm especially if you are feeding smaller mixed pellets
It’s amazing the difference can make
I fished with small dumbbells last week on one rod and couldn’t buy a bite
Switched to a large elips and a 10mm plain old halibut pellet and had some brilliant sport...
Last season I used Okuma 4000 dyna drags on 1.25/1.5 tc rods throwing 40-50g feeders on the Swale so 25-30 yards
Briliant reels for the money- plenty of fish and casting and clutch was excellent- perhaps a bit slower on retrieve than the OCs
Got the usual close-season boredom and bought the...
I have 6000 and 8000oc
I think the 8000c would Balance better with that rod but all personal preference
I use 6000OC on C3s for flood/ big river barbel
8000OC on river pike rods - typically 2.5- 2.75tc and smaller baits
Whichever you choose they are a brilliant reel
Was using 4000s yesterday...
I think Okuma reels are excellent and great value for money
Last session out I used some old 6000gtes which had been my go to reels for most my fishing life
Compared to OCs and Okuma dyna drags they felt, well, old……
Despite being serviced to Mr Isaacs specifications the clutch was just not...
