I'm using the Garner extenable one for piking which is substantial but still not without fault. I've had to epoxy the metal section with the female thread that screws into the spreader block or net onto the inner handle as it just twisted off after a couple of uses. Same happened to my mates...
Quite by chance I got talking to a Drennan rep today outside a local tackle shop and mentioned the plastic thingys
He immediately went to his boot and gave me a couple - great service
He said over tightening is the issue just a quarter turn is required
Someone on here recommended giving a good...
Yeah I think I’d prefer relescopic centre supports , longer banksticks and quite wide buzz bars as I use Penn 7000 reels - big chunky things and annoying as hell resetting drop- offs and constantly knocking adjacent reels
See what that will cost 😳
I use a Fox Ranger Mk 1 which is a great piece of kit but quite heavy and like all conventional pods doesn’t let me fish with the rods pointing at the bait if I’m fishing at 10 & 2 o clock so risky for deep hooking and aborted runs , so I end up fishing with lines closer to each other than I...
Thanks for sharing Jim
Very interested in his fantail set up for dam wall fishing and if I’ve read it correct I’ll be be to use the bank sticks independently for river fishing 👍
Sorry for delay in replying
More laid on - very little flow at the moment so getting away with a slider float ( 16-18’ of water) and an egg sinker on the deck
Had another new stretch yesterday and a couple with a scraper double
Believe it or not I’ve caught 3 doubles from 3 different locations...
Another nice river double - 19-8 on lamprey
Slow day with just one jack and a pair of otters catching more than me
Literally 5 mins before I was going to pack up the float was off and a great scrap
Great start Rich👍
Yeah I’ve had a few trips
Only jacks from the river so far
Trying a couple of local waters for better fish but 4 blanks so far and lot of issues with crayfish - but one of them that could hold a proper unknown lump so keeps the interest high
I have a ticket for the lakes that...
MT built me a Torrix tip rod and said exactly the same
In fact I free issued a selection of Drennan carbon tips to him which he honed so they fit the carrier section perfectly
And 4 seasons on it works and god forbid I snap a tip , replacements are readily available
Re a Multi purpose tip rod-...
Hi
You’re probably aware but there is a pair on ebay
Built by John Rozier who’s not one of the more recognised rod builders but he does a marvellous job- I have a pair of his rods and build quality up there with everyone
Lots of solid advice. I avoid a brolly whenever I can preferring decent waterproofs and also a poncho which can also be used as a tarp if the swim suits. I just pre-tie lengths of para cord to the eyelets, does the job nicely.
I also have a really good rummage through my quiver and rucksack as...
Delkim EVs are a fantastic alarm if he’s not bothered about receivers
I believe that might have been discontinued but sure you can pick them up on Ebay( one on classified now @ £40)
I don’t really do regrets but wish I had taken a punt on the last of them that Tref was selling off at a Barbel Show as LA was being wound up.
Have tried on several occasions to winkle out any that might be squirrelled away but to no avail
I know the bloke who owned Lone Angler and thought the same Mike, but he categorically stated the Westy rods are a unique Harrison blank. He went on to say that Steve Harrison was tearing his hair with Trefor who kept changing what he wanted but from everything you hear , he got it right
There...
People swear by the Albright knot and I’ve used them but you need to practice
I have had one or two fail which is too many
I use grinner to grinner and touch wood never had a failure
Take your time, keep everything moist and if you can , test it with hook pullers
