So glad Peter has given some advice Paul,.. if I mistakenly gave you the impression that I was a migratory fish expert, then I’m a fraud!
I spend most days on the Avon and Stour but don’t fish for Salmon,.. my post and pics were purely an aid regarding levels in relation to Knapp Mill gauge...
Good luck Paul,.. took these pics at Upper Winkton last Sunday when levels at Knapp Mill were just hovering above .4mtrs on the gauge,.. current levels would impede your access to many areas.
Many years ago I took advantage ( only once) of a scam thought up by an unscrupulous fishery manager who ran a very well known commercial stillwater before the close season was lifted . It was a simple ploy purely to derive more income and kick sand in the face of the authorities, which entailed...
Hi Shaun,.. hope you are keeping well my friend. If my post seemed defeatist, it was meant to.
I’ve tried to be upbeat about our rivers for years and long ago became weary of the constant negativity from some anglers which did nothing but harm to club membership numbers. That said,.. apathy...

I was rewarded with 2 fish ,.. a high 13 and a good 12 all...
Saved £130 quid on a decent Nikon camera yesterday ( Cyber Monday) ,.. hopefully it will improve self takes!
Also brought some extras such as remote shutter release fob and gorilla pod which I note were cheaper this morning than yesterday! ( ref Mike’s comment)
As has been mentioned,.. a good OS map, a bit of diplomacy and legwork can get a result, worked well for my dad on both pond and rivers.
Worth remembering that fishing rights don’t always form part of riparian land ownership, and farmers don’t always own the land.
Some estates have fishing...
Been there, done that!
Made one for the Avon years ago, using bait box with a hinged alloy perforated mesh flap.
The weight when loaded nearly dislocated yer wrist, ... needed a broomstick to handle it, plus the risk of disaster if it dumped in the wrong place.
You can baitdrop a heap of bait...
