Unlike the ledgering rod, I normally don’t buy float rod on blind, I always want to feel the rod with a reel on it first.
Given the reply, I probably should wait and see if I can find one to try first.
I am looking to upgrade my 13ft float rod for general river trotting, mainly for chub and roach, I really like the spliced tip rod, and the easiest one to get today is the Tri-Cast John Allerton Rod, unfortunately, I am unable to find a local shop that sells it and I am unable to travel at the...
To me, flavouring the bait is just like flavouring our food, we want to flavour the food because it smells better and tastes better, why not do the same to the fish? As long as you are not over flavouring the bait, they should work well.
I agree a large fish will squeeze in a small net, but I think it is fine for just landing and short time transporting. Defintely not for resting the fish.
Two of my young’s pin have the noise as well, I was thinking to replace them but after talking to a few guys who know these things, they convinced me nothing wrong with them and they work just fine.
I don’t fish boilie a lot, the only boilies caught me a barbel is ambush from seven barbel product.
Trying John baker taste f2 this season, but only use it as paste and fishing for roach
If acolyte ultra is the type of rods you want, I think you may want to look for normark microlite, microlite 2000 etc. Titan is like acolyte plus, avenger is another stepped up blank.
I don’t think these blanks are old, even the mk 1 blanks, yes, they are heavier than acolyte, but not too bad...
Yes, I recently bought a very cheap avenger mk1, the blank is in good condition but the rings and handle both need replacing, it is not worth to find a builder to do the job, so I am going to try it myself.
I don’t think there are many float rob blank available, only option seems is Harrison Gti, it’s a good blank, but I have to say, it’s out dated… really heavy in hand. Acolyte is much better.
Actually, I think you can try to build a float rob using fly fishing blank, maybe a #1 or #2?
Tacklebox specimen net with aluminium block are really good. I got 36 for barbel, and 32 for chub.
I think they are as good as anything available, and a bonus is they have a velcro strap at the bottom of the mesh which can be used to keep the net neat and tidy when packed away.
I prefer the check to be a bit loose, especially the rim check ones so I can operate it with one figure, I have a few rim check pins, and there’s absolutely no way I can operate them with one figure, especially when pushing it down.
I also heard the same story about the check being stiff. One guy described it as "if you can imagine holding a pencil in the palm of one hand and with the thumb of the other hand pushing the pencil to snap it, that's about how hard." I think he's exaggerating, but that at least gives you some...
I have a chimera 3, planning to use it as a backup rod when thames is flooded in the winter, my prime rod for Thames is daiwa basia x45 rods, although not custom build, but the blank is better than any Harrison and free spirit.
