hook packets

been meaning to ask this for a while .... how do you guys store your hook packets ? in my float gear Ive got lots of packets of different sizes, gauges etc and I usually just put an elastic band around them but the band always perishes or breaks. Anyone got a simple solution to keeping them in order and tidy ? thanks and HNY all.

I’m doing it the same way minus the elastic band. I just slip the packets into a suitable size compartment in my tackle box.
For me it doesn’t really need to be more accessible or organized than that as i would be having a very bad day if I had to start tying hooks on the bank. I always have plenty of hook lengths on me premade from home. The hooks themselves never come out the packets on the bank

As Richard has responded I also use Pre-tied hook lengths and store in the match style boxes available, using a loop to loop style for connecting to main line. It allows me to change from a maggot/castor on hook scenario to a banded hair offering in quick time.

I used to empty everything out of packets into lidded compartments in a tackle boxes but unless you label everything you’ve got you’re never sure of sizes etc when restocking. I now keep everything in the packets i buy them in and keep them in an EVA pouch. Easy to see what you’ve got and when a packet is empty it’s obvious what you need to restock. I also dont take tons of stuff i’ll never use these days. I used to carry about 10 of every size lead but just carry a few spares with the rest in the car if desperate

Get some small self seal 20260102_135928.jpgplastic bags, Cliff, cheap as chips on ebay. I only take self mades with me. I use always Korum supersteel all rounder. Perfect for what I dont catch.

I keep them in their original placcy packets stacked together and put a laccyband around them, same as you Cliff. I sometimes put the laccy on round the middle of the packs and then twist it round and stretch it around the packs tops to bottom. That holds them firmly and snugly together.

Probably ten Cliff. Rig wallets are readily available on Amazon, etc. I take two packs with me and keep the other 1500 hooks in their original packs neatly listed in a cake tin. I noticed the other day some of the 35 year old plastic packs are beginning to degrade…

Cliff, I forgot to mention some small low profile plastic containers with individual flaps/doors and have magnetic bottoms. I used to empty the hooks into the compartmemts and put a little label on the lid stating the size of the hooks etc. I think the boxes I have are Korum and they were supplied with the korum luggage.
I imagin similar magnetic boxes will be sold by multiple brands.
Somewhere like temu may be a good place to buy them for very little money
Here's some pictures below. The korum one with the magnetic bottom is the one with four compartments.
One of the others is an old freebie off angling times and the black one is a generic one from temu. They are less than a quid each on temu and I imagine they will do them with magnetic bottoms.

I forgot to say, I keep my olivettes and swivels in the angling times type.

I have a core range of hooks I used for the various types of fishing I do. My way of storing my stock is in of those useful tackle boxes Angling Direct (AD) sell which have dividers that can be put in various positions. When I need hooks I generally buy them on Ebay as a lot of sellers will offer multiple packs e.g. 3 x packs of 10 or 5 x packs of 10 and the postage is cheaper than petrol in the car and going to a tackle shop. Also AD seemed to have stopped selling Kamasan hooks but I did buy some recently from their sale rack.

All my float fishing is now done with spade end hooks so I have some hooklength storage boxes which are cheap enough to buy and usually available in different colours. My barbel float fishing hooklengths are stored in a Leeda 30cm box which also has pegs at shorter lengths.

My hooks for legering/feeder fishing I tie up using eyed hooks from Bank Tackle and I store those in a Gardner Rig Bin in a variety of lengths. Any spare hooks are in a tackle box in my bag but I rarely need to make any up on the bank.

Another useful way of storing made up hooklengths are those foam discs and some manufactuers sell them as a set with a storage box.
