Hello from France !

Anthony Block

Senior Member & Supporter
Hello everyone,
first of all, I apologize for my English, as I speak French.

I live in France and mainly fish the Moselle River, as well as the Saur River in Luxembourg.
I discovered barbel fishing this year, and... wow!

It's a fantastic fishing. I mainly fish with a feeder.
The rivers I fish are very productive for barbel, and I've already had some nice catches.

I practice rod building. I've even ordered a Chimera 3 blank that I'll be building this winter.

I joined the forum after reading it for several weeks. Because, let's face it, English anglers are much more passionate about barbel than anglers in France, where this fish is too often forgotten.

I'm happy to explore the forum sections and exchanging ideas with you all !

Bienvenue!
Don’t worry about your ‘english’ it seems better than some of ours 🤣
Some nice Barbel there! Enjoy the forum, everyone is very helpful & friendly and will be interested in any tips for perhaps where to fish for weekends away🇫🇷🍷🥖🎣 🤔

Hi Anthony, great to see someone reaching out from France.
I use to fish the meuse frequently a few years ago , and doubles were very rare...
You're barbel all look doubles to me..
Keep up the good work 👌

Hello Anthony - great photos and well done. It would be interesting to see some images of the rivers.

Welcome Anthony,
You will find a wealth of information here and also a great community of like minded people with a passion for barbel. Looking at your pictures, you are catching some lovely fish.

Welcome aboard Anthony, I look forward to seeing some more pictures of the venues that you fish 🎣 as I’m hoping to come visit France to fish sometime in the near future 🤞🏻

If you'd like to see more of the rivers I've fished, you can always check out my videos on YouTube (in French... I'll try to add English subtitles in the future :)). There are only two videos so far about barbel fishing, as I'm just starting out this year, but I hope to add more in the coming months !

Nice video! You are very lucky to fish such a feature packed river in a picturesque setting which appears to be easily accessible. Taking your friend with you is special as well. Have you tried float fishing for barbel? The site has lots of information on the topic. Do you catch chub?

Bonne chance

Never tried float fishing :)
So far, I never caught chub on the Sauer River (while barbel fishing, I did when I fished with my fly rod).
And yes, fishing with my goldie (her name his "Fly" :)) is very nice, she loves to be with me on the bank !

Cracking fish thy are.

I fished the Meuse (Fumay) this year and absolutely loved it. Was way out my comfort zone, due to the size of the river, but still managed to catch.

That river you fish looks beautiful and similar so the type of river I fish in the UK.

Will check you YouTube vids out tomorrow - you way want to add the word “Barbel” to your video titles as will probably pick up more UK viewers.

Nice vid Anthony - 'vive la difference!'

Q - What is the umbrella bracket on the back of your chair and where did you purchase it from? Looks like a useful bit of kit and can it be used with a standard golf umbrella?

Chris I’m sure Anthony will enlighten you, but in the meantime I’d be looking towards Preston innovations and other match fishing brands etc as I think the brackets are marketed more for seat boxes and the like for when fishing from platforms and solid ground where you can’t get a ground spike in?
