Nut based boilies

Hi, with most bait companys now doing there own take on nut based mixes ie tiger nuts peanuts etc do you think they would be as effective for Barbel as they are for carp ?

Hi Chris, I'd say give anything a try as barbel aren't too picky when it comes to baits. Ringing the changes in your approach as to what baits you use could give you an edge and land you more fish than just using the same old baits as everyone else. I believe that fish can become weary of the same old bait that everyone else uses so trying to think outside of the box will in my mind make you a better angler. Good luck with trying something different and please let us know how you get on.

ABS BAITS. MC NUT. I’ve caught carp barbel & chub on these. Geoff bowers owns abs baits all his baits are top notch he as another great bait called malarkey unreal barbel being caught on that

Yeah i saw that one from ABS Rob, his MC nut gets rave reviews from the carp fraternity , with the world and his dog useing fish meal baits of some description im wondering if nut based mixes would be as effective

The ABS one is good as is the Handcraft nut bait. I’m sure there are others as nut baits are ‘in’ at present.

The loose texture would probably suit a barbel bait and the base ingredients would work well with a confectionery type flavour - maple, cream etc etc.

But at the end of the day any bait is only as good as the angler fishing it. IF you use a well designed (base mix and flavour levels) bait and apply it properly you will catch fish - assuming there are some there ! If you just want something for occasional use as a flavour carrier then the base probably doesn’t matter - especially if you over flavour it in an effort to get a quick result.
