Finally!!! Something half decent

Terrible season for me so far largely contributed by the fact that the rivers have been in such poor condition. I’ve just not wanted to fish them.

Anyway a bit of rain and a cooler few days finally encouraged a couple of barbel to feed for me.

I had a modest one around 8lb 2nd cast which was a blinding result in itself
then an hour later after several clonking chub and huge slabs of slime I set the hook and felt the ground shake beneath 😂 (slight exaggeration)

Oh my word they are unbelievably insane at this size on a 15ft float rod.
It will teach me to leave my scales at home.
Estimated at around high 13 maybe just hit 14 but we’ll never know eh.

Either way it’s something pretty special to catch especially on a float rod. It’s been a struggle to be fair.

Well done mate, great fish.

Good work fella👍 it’s been a struggle to even tempt a decent chub for me on the Ouse, then as soon as we have some decent rain I can’t go🤦‍♂️

We’ll have to sort something out Al being so close to one another and met up several times.
You come to mine or I come to yours. Happy either way just throw some dates at me 👍🏻

Well done, the Nene?
Yes. River nene. 6g float, 0.24 main line straight through to a size 10 garbolino spade end xtra strong hook. 8 inch over depth and just nudging a cube of meat through while feeding little but often 2mm micro’s via the cati.
Some of the bream I wade through are colossal
I’m not a fan of them but you can’t help but be impressed with the size of them.

I barbel blank more often than not doing this to be fair but it’s so addictive when I do hook one that I don’t particularly want to catch them other ways.
