Lines

I would have said ESP Synchro XT (used it exclusively for years from release) but current batches are awful. . . . the Loaded version was always previously the poor 2nd cousin as they made it more 'sinkable' however the downside was a springy unmanageable line that suffered from excessive twist. Its my understanding that standard Synchro & Loaded are now the EXACTLY same (barring the product packaging and colour) so they are effectively both pants! Why ESP did this I've no idea . . .a daft Friday Marketing meeting I'd assume . . !

These days I quite like Gardner GT-HD . . Thinking Anglers OGX is also a good line (nice and limp) . . . . . if your feeling flush I can fully recommend PB Products Hybron . . .its a mono / fluro blend and sinks better than fluro; its also limp and has minimal stretch; I use it on my primary carp reels but its probably a little OTT for standard barbel bashing!

I’m glad others have noticed this. I’ve binned 3 reels worth of Syncro XT because it was horrendous. Just about to replace with the thinking anglers OGX, which feels and looks good but haven’t used it yet so can’t speak for performance.

I’m gutted they discontinued the Berkeley CM90, that stuff was amazing for me. Never had a cut off (barely even got damaged), was nice and limp, behaved perfectly.

I've used esp olive for years and never had a problem with it, obviously classed as a carp line, but a very good angler put me on to it and never looked back, I just think all the new esp lines are are a reincarnation of this line to make money, I have 1 spool left ,🤔

I recently spooled up with ESP Synchro in 15lb and can’t say I’ve noticed a difference , still a great dependable line in my experience

I also need some new line and I'm considering the GT80+ but not sure whether to go for the clear or green. Any advice?
I’ve used it in 10lb (breaks at much more) and it is good stuff.

I have the clear as I like clear lines and have used them for decades (where available). I started with (clear) Berkeley XT and XL in the early 90’s - they replaced maxima and sylcast….both tinted and nowhere near as good lines.

I’ve been using the green in 10lb for the last few years and managed two 15s and a 16 since I started using it. I really like it and as Tim states above it’s breaking strain is much better than quoted.
