Hi all, I've just signed up the the forums and thought I'd say hi.

I've actually never caught a barbel and have (hopefully) decided this season is the year I'm actively going to target them.

I've spent the last few years fishing carp puddles and match pools with the kids but now they are abit more grown up and can confidently fish themselves I'm hoping to spend more time on the river with them, rather than the commercial's

I have a BAA ticket and live in Dudley so have a fair amount of good waters reasonably close to me, but no idea where to start as a inexperienced barbel angler
 
Hi Daniel. Welcome to the forum. There are guys on here who are much better barbel anglers than I profess to be, so they can give you tips and guidance.
What I would say though, is that once you've caught a barbel from a scenic stretch of river and immersed yourself in the surroundings, its difficult to go back to fishing "commercials".
In my mind fishing for (and catching) barbel is the pinnacle.

Hi Daniel, Id recommend you start on the middle Severn, any of the BAA stretches from Bridgnorth down to Bewdley. A simple blockend feeder rig, 2ft hook length with halibut pellet on the hair, fill the feeder with 3mm pellets. Try a few different swims if you are not catching but you should definitely catch a few. Then try float fishing meat and you won't look back !!
