Chimera 3 rod 2.25. First thoughts.

I bought a pair of 12ft rods on here. Excellent condition. And purchased mainly for long cast tench fishing.

I thought I would give my early, first impressions. I know many on here love them.

A few carp to 18lb have certainly underpinned the advice given here that they are through action.
My 1.75 and 2lb Torrix have managed carp to 38lb with a number of 35ish in the past.

The key being that 2/3 down that blank they come in very firmly and you can keep the fishes head up to the net.

I do think the " softness" of the 2 25 Chimera will give me a problem with any reasonable, bi product carp that most lakes seem to have. It was taking me a few attempts every time to net fish as the blank allows them to turn and dive every time. Floppy would probably be unfair.

I'll find out what they are like ( hopefully with tench, in the next two months. I think they will be perfect

This is just initial thoughts and concerns.

I use 12ft 2lb Torrix for Tench and find them perfect for the job, like you landing me big carp to 44.8. I use 11ft 2.25lb harrison gti's for bigger river Barbel, they are very through action and think they wouldn't have copped as well with that Carp.

My only advice is; get a pair of Daiwa Basia Barbel rods... 👍 👌
I was put off of that idea by a good friend and good angler. He was complaining that the basias would not deal with barbel ? could have been carp on the tidal Arun. This is a very experienced carp angler.

I would take that with a pinch of salt Colin.
The basia blanks are exceptional for barbel

It's ok I'm trying to reduce my gear not increase it. 😁 😁
Just passing on an opinion

My two penneth worth is that the Chimera 3's will adequately deal with any pike or carp that swim in this country...never mind barbel. I concede that the barbel is pound for pound a far harder fighter than a carp or pike. The C3's excell when applied to casting heavy feeders. Also zero 'hook pulls' at the net that I can remember. They'll certainly see me out.

Hi Graham, whilst I had not used the rods for carp I did have barbel to an ounce under fifteen from the tidel when it was up at 6.5 mtrs and running hard. I play my fish hard to get them out before the are completely knackered in order to aid recovery and found the chimeras brilliant for that even in very snaggy swims. My rational was that the power/ forgiveness balance prevented hook pulls in those situations where you really have to apply pressure. What I would say is next time you hook a carp really give it some stick and see what that blank is capable of.

TBH, they are as good as it gets for me. I only had a 2.3/4 which was over gunned for up to late double carp, feiststy as they are.The peregrine s 1.75 are magic for those. But having what feels like most of the top end daiwa range, air ,rs, pro, aventus, infinity, the basias' action is still my fondest memory

I would just highlight here, as said, these were my initial impressions.

I have no doubt the rods would deal with most fish...BUT as I said, the softness of the through actioned blank allowed the carp caught to dive down and continue pushing away. I would imagine the blank gave around 12 inches to 18inches more when on the surface than the 2lb Torrix blank.

Barbel of course generally will dive away one or 2 times when bought towards the net. Carp can continue to fight/wallow out from the rod tip numerous times.

Anyway, I'll be catching a few more fish on them, Zander, carp barbel and tench and review again.😄

I’ve just got back from the Ebro fishing for wels from a boat
We were using DAM cat rods - nothing fancy
Point being is these factory blanks withstood pressure and bent into fighting curves that had to be seen to be believed
Accepting barbel and carp do pull , I suspect we all completely underestimate what these quality blanks will do
This is my mate playing a 150 lb cat and when it went under the boat , the rod bent as much again
Agree - give it some proper stick
