Solihull

Long story with few details but I’m going to find myself on the last day of the season in Solihull scratching around while I wait for purpose of my visit overnight, work related.

It’s been a while but I’m thinking that there may be a solid Barbel opportunity as I’m not a million miles from the Severn or the W.Avon. Having never fished either I’m looking for a point in the right direction of what would be a good use of that opportunity. My commitment is in a place called Shirley.

You're even closer to the WA Stephen, Stratford, Bidford, Evesham etc. Not sure about day ticket opportunities on there really, but Manor Farm on a DT isn't that far away. Not sure how busy that may or may not be on the final day of the season though.

As Cliff has said, Hampton Loade Kinver Freeliners. There are decent numbers of Barbel along there including fish into double figures. I should imagine ( though I don't know for sure) that the Warks Avon would be a more difficult proposition with fewer Barbel. The Severn is perhaps a safer bet and is where I go when up from Dorset. 👍

Manor Farm / Anchor Meadow are both DT - or splurge on a BAA Ticket / a Leamington AA ticket for multiple Avon stretches . .

Is there anything left in stretches of the W.Avon apart from Manor Farm?

2 seasons now on a BAA stretch with zero barbel.

Your time is probably best spent on a stretch of the Severn but I don't like that river so I can't suggest any areas I'm afraid.

Is Anchor Meadow still open? I thought it had closed after the old lady died.
Don't actually know as haven't ventured that way for a couple of years . . . I thought her sons were still running it! Maybe its now free fishing (if accessible!) but I doubt it. . . shame if it has closed as the weir island was a popular spot. Last time I fished it no one approached me for a ticket . .!

WA is hard - one fish an outing and you are a barbel god! There's still a large one lurking in Manor Farm (as far as I'm aware) but predation has taken its toll all over the WAvon . .

It would be a shame if it's closed, it was day ticket in prime location and there were some very big fish in the vicinity

Anchor was still closed towards the end of last year around November /December time, not heard anything about it being open again.

Had my first ever barbel from there. Only fished it twice. Last time I went she was telling me her husband had just died and her son was running it. Shame to hear she’s past

Yeah it's a shame, not long ago I was helping her up the hill to her home cause her battery cart had run of juice and the dog was biting the hell out of my ankles the whole time 🤣🤣

Was a nice venue they had/have but the busy nature just wasn't for me and I never fished it.

Yes there is a very big fish there. Came out twice last year.

I fish MF at the weekends in the summer and it’s a nightmare - by 7pm on a Friday there must be x30 lines in the water. It’s no wonder not much comes out. Midweek or a Sunday is likely the best time to fish it.

Not sure re Anchor Lane, the gate was still locked in September.

W.Avon is tough going of late. I fish a number of stretches around Warwick and less and less fish caught each season, even by the match-men. Am joining Hereford next year as would rather do an extra two hours in the car and have half a chance of catching.

Lots of WAvon anglers driving elsewhere - ! Where do you fish on the Leam?

I don’t really fish the Leam, more the Avon and primarily at Barford (when there’s not a bloody match on).

Used to fish Wasperton / Charlecotte a lot but they’ve gone downhill in the last two years.

What about yourself ?
