Posting this in the most active forum rather than the ‘Other species’ one. Mods - feel free to move if required.

I’m looking at 2500 size reels for my Perch and Chub fishing this winter on small rivers.

I’ll be the first to admit that I tend to gravitate towards Shimano front drag reels so the 2500 size Ultegra FC looks decent to me - and is a sensible price (circa £100). I’d be pairing it with an 11ft Avon style rod.

Does anyone have real world experience of this reel range or any other recommendations?

Understandably not a great deal of interest on another reel question but for anyone who might be facing the same decision I ended up looking at the Aero XR C3000 for my requirements.

The 3000 is pretty compact, but fine for an 11ft rod used primarily in the margins and certainly no more than a rod length or so from the bank.
 
Ultegra fc is a nice reel, but I don’t think it is suitable for ledgering. I was also considered it when it first launched, but decided not to.

Sahara fj is a nice reel for close range chub fishing, it has almost same features as aero xr except ci4 body, so slight heavier and balanced well with my quiver rod at 3000 size. Of course, aero xr is a really nice reel, I have the 4000 version as I found c3000 is a bit light for my like.
