River feeder rod

Morning,

Looking at getting a pair of rods to fish for perch and roach on the tip on rivers. Mainly the Wey, Hampshire Avon and Thames.

I'd really like an old pair of Fox Duo Lite specialist but have been trying to get a pair for months with no joy.

So, my question really is would I be better off with a 1lb/1.25lb twin tip but only use the quiver section or a pair of dedicated feeder rods, like the Acolyte plus.

Have a look for a drennan DRX river feeder or a matchpro feeder….or if you can find one a drennan combo feeder that can be used at 11/6 12/6 - superb versatile rods that will cover all your needs. The extra length might be useful on the Thames? The acolytes also come in 13/14ft
There is a 13’10 DRX river feeder on eBay collection in Ashford for £70 (bargain)?
 
The drennan medium feeder combo rod, 11.6 and 12.6, will cover most situations when river is not flooded.

I personally don’t like the idea of twin tips on light rods as I found one tip is always useless.
 
Dont ignore the Drennan Vertex rods, like most people do. The blue graphics are not to everyones taste and I notice that Drennan have toned them down on the latest distance feeder versions.

For my own Perch and Chub fishing I now exclusively use the 11ft Vertex Carp feeder and the 11ft Medium feeder. There isnt that much between them, although the carp feeder has a little more backbone lower down, so good for hit and hold Chub fishing near snags. Both work well with the 1.5oz glass tip.

I use the medium feeder for all my Perch fishing and I’ve landed bonus Barbel on it to over 9lb, which took my lobworm hookbait. I really do rate these rods and I was so impressed with them, I sold my original Drennan Super Specialist Duo 1.25lb rod, which became redundant.

I also like to take rods made up to the riverbank and personally I feel the Acolytes can be a bit delicate, if not stored in a hard tube or padded rod sleeve.

I agree. The only issue (apart from the graphics) I had with the Vertex Medium Feeder was the reel seat was pretty tight when accommodating my Daiwa TDM reels. Might be that these reels have large feet, but they fit all my other rods perfectly. I got mine for £70.00 and sold it for only a tenner less... shop around.

Alternatively, the Guru N'Gauge Pro Feeders are beautiful rods and not expensive. Guru customer service is excellent and they have a dedicated spares website, where a spare carrier section will cost around £27.00... I know from bitter experience (and not 'user error', I might add) that a replacement carrier section for an Acolyte Plus feeder is close to £100.00.

Curious as to why you want a pair, for that type of fishing. I'm asking out of ignorance, not criticism.

Interesting as up until recently I used a Daiwa TDR2508 on my Vertex.

I also picked up the carp feeder rod cheap for £70. Local tackle shop sold their Vertex rods off cheap, claiming no one bought them and everyone instead bought Acolytes. Personally I still love the Vertex 👍🏻

Something else has come up which may or may not do the job but I'll try them forst before deciding if I need yet more rods.

They will predominantly used for what I said but I do also fish Marsh farm for the crucians and whilst 99% of the time will use a float ok the pin there are occasions where I'd fish two on the method, although I do try to avoid this.
