I haven't done much barbel fishing this year but I decided to have a few hours on the Wharfe on Wednesday as it was my birthday.
It was a pleasantly mild day but the river level was lower than I expected.
There was another angler in the swim above where I was planning to fish and he had had 3 fish so I decided to move to a swim that I had never fished before. I alternated between meat and pellet and got a few small taps but around 4.30pm the rod pulled round and the fish pulled hard and stayed deep. A few minutes later I had my first ever Yorkshire double in the net at 10lb 2oz which was without doubt my best birthday present...and I caught another fish of approximately 7lb.
A good day all round and lots of views of kingfishers, kites and buzzards.
