HNV Boilies

Richard Dawson

Senior Member
Off this week and looking to venture out on a day or 3 day ticket fishing.

I usually roll my own boilies but haven't had the time so i've ordered some of those Baitworks Atlantic Heat boilies (24mm)

What other HNV boilies are in vogue at the moment? Especially for river fishing? Ideally i'd like to compare them to my own concoctions one day.

Hi Richard, I still roll John bakers supermilk, have been using it around 4/5 years now, and although it's a great bait, it's no better than Nash scopex squid.
It's what works for you that really counts.
Good luck.

@Tim Marks usually knows 😀 What's a good HNV boillie currently that accounts for a lot of fish?

Not looking for mainstream, looking for the good stuff, niche and expensive ;)
It doesn’t have to be as expensive as some…..

I’ve used bespoke JB HNV pastes and they work well and go on working. But for me they take a few trips to establish (and John told me that would likely be what happens).

I also use over the counter frozen baits and they work straight out of the bag and they go on working too.

I haven’t tried it, but a bait that would be worth checking out is the new Handcraft tuna/squid concoction. Their other baits (Herb and Nutriplex) are well recommended.

Others to look at would include Rollin’ baits, DNA, Trent baits and Three rivers.

There are plenty of other people on here who know a bit about bait……no doubt you will get plenty of different suggestions.

Evening gents,

After many many years of not making my own bait I've decided to have a dabble again.

I used to use a lot of milk protein based baits 15 or so years ago so I've decided to have a go again.

Some of JB's supermilk turned up the other day with a couple of flavours and an additive so a batch will be being made this week and getting a run out in Sunday.

Hopefully brings some results as it's eye wateringly expensive stuff....

Thanks

Lewis

I always liked to make my baits irregular so to speak. Felt it gives me more options plus the cigar shapes means I can break off different sizes and have a soft centre that offers more attraction. While still having a crust that will enable me to hair rig.

Plan on using single hookbaits and stringer's of paste blobs so this style of shape and options works perfectly.

Thanks

Lewis

Mines a combination of a couple of flavours and an additive as recommended by John.

3 chub today on a short 2 hour session so at least I know something will eat it 🤣

Thanks

Lewis
Great confidence booster that isn’t it.
Another advantage of cooking the ‘sausages’ and taking those to the bank is you can break off just the right amount to stick on the hair ….basically if you pre-tie rigs you don’t have to worry about tying your hair to suit the size of bait you’ve bought in a shop, just tie what looks about right then break the bait to suit.

Hi men

Lots of options for baits , you can do worse than Sticky baits liquids depending on your attraction profile , their squid and hydro fish products are quality and can be bought in any good fishing shop . Iv posted before about my CC Moores Indian spice based bait which we caught loads on , replacing the black pepper oil that a well known angler was using in the same area , but is no longer available. The bait I'm using , for carp though , have been Sticky Krill for convenience, and the fact if you sight fish you would see everything loves it . To run along with them though iv been making baits with these people , lovely stuff although iv had to order from them in Belgium but worth it as it's been quality stuff 😉.

I would also have a good look BAF who tbh supply lots of bait companies , basemixes and their oils are fantastic , such a choice out there .

Some really interesting flavours there, Mark. Sooo many memories.
And they are good quality? Would be nice to have a mess about with some of those actually.

I researched as best I could and they are doing one of my favourites and smells and more importantly tastes as close as I can remember . One they do is the famous LMSPE , I was put on this by Hutchie ( name dropping 😄) but he put it in everything ( his version) , he thought it helped with emulsifying within the bait , I used it because it's taste is awesome 😉. But looking at others they do , you could end up going down a rabbit hole . So many emails exchanged , but I stood strong and stuck with my original 👍

Secret agent….that was a top flavour

hi Lewis. How long do you boil your bait for? cheers
Hi Peter,

The hookbaits are going in for 20-30 seconds and the sausages go in for 40 seconds. I'll then air dry them on a rack for 24 hours at room temp then freeze.

I've been using them exclusively for almost a month on a stretch, baiting little and often and fishing paste stringers with a paste wrapped hookbait when actually fishing.

It was slow to get going but 2 days ago I had 6 barbel on single hookbaits, no free offerings. In 7 trips I've had about 18 chub and 8 barbel in total with 2 doubles.

This from a stretch I've never set eyes on before and hasnt been known as hugely prolific.

Thanks

Lewis
